Helen Kate Furness hosts author talks on local, international memoirs
NETHER PROVIDENCE » Helen Kate Furness Free Library, 100 N. Providence Road, Wallingford, welcomes two authors for talks in December. Annabel Annuo Liu visits the library at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, to discuss her third memoir, “When Chopsticks Meet Apple Pie: Cross-cultural Musings on Life, Family and Food.” Born in Shanghai, China, Liu is a bilingual writer of memoir, literary essays, short stories and a novel in Chinese.
David Komarnicki is at the library at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6. His book “Five Stars in the Window: Growing up during World War Two” is about his life in Chester as one of ten siblings. The five stars represent four of his seven brothers and the husband of one of his two sisters.

NORWOOD » Norwood Library, 513 Welcome Ave., welcomes children ages 2-3 for Toddler Storytime on Thursdays Nov. 9 and 16 at 10 a.m. The library holds Preschool Connections at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14. Parents can bring their children ages 3-5 to the library for stories, activities, and lots of fun.
For older kids grades K-5, come and enjoy afternoon fun on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. at Kids Klub. American Girl Doll Club invites grades K-5 and any type of their special doll friend on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 3:45 p.m. for activities highlighting Native American culture in early America. The Norwood Sister Circle presents the movie “The Help” on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. at the library. “The Help” is based on the New York Times best seller of the same name by Kathryn Stockett and stars Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Bryce Dallas Howard. The movie is an inspirational,
courageous and empowering story about extraordinary women in the 1960’s South who built an unlikely friendship that puts them all at risk.
The Norwood Sister Circle, formed in March of 2015, is a group is women coming together to uplift, inform, empower, inspire, and raise
awareness of women’s issues at home and around the world. The group meets monthly at the library. For information, call or visit the library.
Learn Ridley history, get aging information
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP » Join the Ridley Township Library, 100 E. MacDade Blvd., Folmsom, at 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays Nov. 14 and 21 when local historian Keith Lockhart presents programs on the early (Nov. 14) and later (Nov. 21) history of Ridley Township. The series is illustrated with original photos on interesting facts like how Norwood, Prospect Park, Glenolden, Eddystone, Rutledge and Ridley Park were once part of the township.
These historical lectures are part of the celebration in honor of Ridley Township Library’s 60th anniversary. Keith Lockhart is a lifelong Ridley resident, and a retired Ridley Township Police Officer. A graduate of Penn State University, he has written numerous booklets on the history of the area and for years wrote a history column for Town Talk. He has also contributed to both the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily Times. In 30 years of collecting, Lockhart has amassed one of the largest collections of Delaware County historical memorabilia.
These free programs are held in Garling Hall. Registration is requested; walkins are also welcomed.
Visit the library at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, when Taylor Hospice presents a “Navigating Aging” program. Rebecca Smith-Wallace, MSW, and Marilee Ciarmella, RN, from Taylor Hospice show a powerpoint presentation to provide information, covering various issues such as the importance of wills, designating a Power of Attorney, knowing the many organizations available to reach out to for support, and many more essential learning tools.
Participants gather together and talk about the many different important topics related to the preparation of aging, and to discuss concerns and questions in a relaxed and open forum. Registration is required for this free program, which is held in the lower library meeting room.
