Rodio’s goal leads Episcopal to PAISAA final

Lauren Rodio’s goal stood on the board for a long time Thursday afternoon. After 80 minutes, it still stood alone. Rodio scored in the sixth minute off an assist from Hailee Moran as Episcopal Academy downed Penn Charter, 1-0, in the Pennsylvan­ia Independen­t Schools Athletic Associatio­n semifinals Thursday.

Hannah Moriarty made sure Rodio’s marker held up with seven saves in the shutout.

Field Hockey

Notre Dame made quick work of Agnes Irwin thanks to a natural hat trick in the second half by Mia Leonhardt to book a place in the PAISAA final via an 8-0 romp Thursday.

Ava Leonhardt and Lauren Curran scored twice apiece with Curran, like Mia Leonhardt, adding an assist. Sarah Jane Quigley got the scoring started for Notre Dame (16-2-3) and dished a pair of helpers, as did Tina D’Anjollel.

Paige DiLullo made 13 saves in goal for Agnes Irwin.

In the other semifinal: GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 2, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 1 » Sammy Popper scored the game-winner at 23:59 of the second half off a penalty corner to send the Patriots to the final. Colleen Carrigan also scored for GA.

Maddie Rehak equalized Carrigan’s goal late in the first half for EA. Bridget Boyle and Caroline Kelly combined for seven saves for EA.

GA will take on Notre Dame in the PAISAA final.

Boys Soccer

Johnny Cunningham scored an unassisted tally in the first half, but Springside Chestnut Hill bombarded Episcopal Academy with 10 shots on goal and two second-half tallies in a 3-1 win in the PAISAA semifinal Thursday.

Trevor Manion made seven the Churchmen (21-3-1).

Boys Hockey

Wednesday saves for

Zac Deemer scored a third-period hat trick and Liam McCanney paired three goals with three assists as Cardinal O’Hara used a five-goal third to accrue a 10-0 win over Bishop Shanahan Thursday.

Jacob Pohlig scored once and handed out four assists, and Justin Boornazian and Nick McKay collected a goal and two helpers each for the Lions, which got 18 saves from Troy Percival in the shutout.

Girls Hockey

Jennifer Goldstein scored twice in the third period and set up Maddy O’Malley’s second goal as Garnet Valley skated to a 6-0 win.

O’Malley added an assist. Manzi and Camille Sponagule the lamp for the Jaguars, who the Cougars, 37-5. Gianna also lit outshot
