Seahawks face challenge in rebuilding D

-

SEATTLE » The Seattle Seahawks began taking inventory of their injury situation Friday, a day after a brutal 2216 victory over Arizona kept Seattle on the heels of the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC West at 6-3. Yes, it was an important win. It was also a costly victory after cornerback Richard Sherman was lost for the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right leg.

Sherman first injured the tendon a month ago against the Rams and it finally popped against the Cardinals. After never missing a game in his career due to injury, Sherman will now be a spectator the rest of the way.

That’s where a failed physical suddenly becomes so important. Cornerback Jeremy Lane was supposed to be a member of the Texans at this point after being included in the trade where Seattle acquired left tackle Duane Brown. Except the trade had to be modified after Lane failed his physical with the Texans and returned to the Seahawks.

Jets’ Kearse: Get rid of Thursday games

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. » Jermaine Kearse is no fan of Thursday night games.

The Jets receiver echoed what has become a growing sentiment among players who think the league should get rid of short work weeks because they are detrimental to their health and safety.

“You’re asking guys who play a high volume on one day and literally give it their all on that one day and ask them to recover and try to bounce back in a couple of days,” Kearse said.

Green was docked $30,387 for fighting and $12,154 for unsportsmanlike conduct. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. » Matt Forte has been waiting for the swelling in his surgically repaired right knee to subside. Instead, it has only gotten worse. The 31-year-old back will sit out the Jets’ game at Tampa Bay on Sunday because of his ailing knee.
