Shooting victim escapes death in fiery crash

CHESTER » A man who was apparently shot and then tried to drive himself to the hospital crashed his car, which then burst into flames, police said.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning just a few blocks from Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Officers responded to a report of a car that had flipped over at 21st and Upland streets. Further investigat­ion revealed that the driver apparently had been shot near Fourth and Highland streets just after 2:30 a.m. The victim tried to drive himself to the hospital but instead lost control of the vehicle, which flipped over and burst into flames, according to authoritie­s.

The man was able to escape the wreckage and was taken to CrozerChes­ter Medical Center. His condition is not yet known.

The fire was extinguish­ed by Upland and Brookhaven fire companies.

Police currently have in the shooting.

The incident remains no suspects under investigat­ion.
