Here are the rules for Haverford holiday window competition

-

he Haverford Partnership for Economic Development (HPED) announced the rules and timeline for the 2017 Holiday Window Display Contest.

A panel of judges has been assembled who will observe store window displays and facades in Haverford Township from Dec. 1114.

This year businesses will have to register to be considered for awards. This is a change from previous years when judges viewed all displays within the township.

To register for the competition a business must inform the HPED by signing up at the HPED website at www.hped.org or via email at donaldkelly@aol. com. The deadline to register is Dec. 8.

As previously, there will be five categories: Most Beautiful Window Display, Most Creative Window Display, Most Effective Marketing Window Display, Most Whimsical Window Display and Most Beautiful Building Façade.

Certificates of recognition will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners. When the 10 winners are announced Dec. 18 their displays will be photographed and placed on the HPED website to allow the public to vote online for the overall “People’s Choice Award.” On-line voting for the People’s Choice will be at the HPED website at www.hped.org from Dec. 21-31.

Last year, the first-place winner in the Most Beautiful Window category was Lizelle’s Bridal Boutique. Testa’s Bakery won first place for Most Whimsical Window. The first-place award for Most Effective Marketing Window was won by Clair Pruitt Photography. Charles Gans Plumbing, Heating and Cooling won in the Most Creative Window category. Centrella’s Deli repeated as first place winner in the Most Beautiful Facade category. The People’s Choice winner was Jon Laurie Salon.

Judging panel member, Rudy Miller, encouraged businesses to sign up for the competition.

“Since the Holiday Window Display Contest started several years ago, we have noticed that local businesses have upped their decorating game.” said Miller. “As a result, the township is becoming increasingly more festive during the holiday season. It’s been great to see more and more businesses doing lovely displays of lights and wreaths and trimmings and other holiday themes. So have some fun. Get Creative. Join in the spirit of the holidays by registering your business now to be the most beautiful holiday window in Haverford Township this Holiday Season.”

The Haverford Partnership for Economic Development is a non-profit organization through which business owners, commercial property owners, residents and Haverford Township officials collaborate to strengthen local business districts by helping existing businesses be successful, welcoming new businesses and beautifying business areas.
