Here are the rules for Haver­ford hol­i­day win­dow com­pe­ti­tion

he Haver­ford Part­ner­ship for Eco­nomic Devel­op­ment (HPED) an­nounced the rules and time­line for the 2017 Hol­i­day Win­dow Dis­play Con­test.

A panel of judges has been as­sem­bled who will ob­serve store win­dow dis­plays and fa­cades in Haver­ford Town­ship from Dec. 1114.

This year busi­nesses will have to reg­is­ter to be con­sid­ered for awards. This is a change from pre­vi­ous years when judges viewed all dis­plays within the town­ship.

To reg­is­ter for the com­pe­ti­tion a busi­ness must in­form the HPED by sign­ing up at the HPED web­site at or via email at don­ald­kelly@aol. com. The dead­line to reg­is­ter is Dec. 8.

As pre­vi­ously, there will be five cat­e­gories: Most Beau­ti­ful Win­dow Dis­play, Most Creative Win­dow Dis­play, Most Ef­fec­tive Mar­ket­ing Win­dow Dis­play, Most Whim­si­cal Win­dow Dis­play and Most Beau­ti­ful Build­ing Façade.

Cer­tifi­cates of recog­ni­tion will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place win­ners. When the 10 win­ners are an­nounced Dec. 18 their dis­plays will be photographed and placed on the HPED web­site to al­low the pub­lic to vote on­line for the over­all “Peo­ple’s Choice Award.” On-line vot­ing for the Peo­ple’s Choice will be at the HPED web­site at from Dec. 21-31.

Last year, the first-place win­ner in the Most Beau­ti­ful Win­dow cat­e­gory was Lizelle’s Bri­dal Bou­tique. Testa’s Bak­ery won first place for Most Whim­si­cal Win­dow. The first-place award for Most Ef­fec­tive Mar­ket­ing Win­dow was won by Clair Pruitt Pho­tog­ra­phy. Charles Gans Plumb­ing, Heat­ing and Cool­ing won in the Most Creative Win­dow cat­e­gory. Cen­trella’s Deli re­peated as first place win­ner in the Most Beau­ti­ful Fa­cade cat­e­gory. The Peo­ple’s Choice win­ner was Jon Lau­rie Sa­lon.

Judg­ing panel mem­ber, Rudy Miller, en­cour­aged busi­nesses to sign up for the com­pe­ti­tion.

“Since the Hol­i­day Win­dow Dis­play Con­test started sev­eral years ago, we have no­ticed that lo­cal busi­nesses have upped their dec­o­rat­ing game.” said Miller. “As a re­sult, the town­ship is be­com­ing in­creas­ingly more fes­tive dur­ing the hol­i­day sea­son. It’s been great to see more and more busi­nesses do­ing lovely dis­plays of lights and wreaths and trim­mings and other hol­i­day themes. So have some fun. Get Creative. Join in the spirit of the hol­i­days by reg­is­ter­ing your busi­ness now to be the most beau­ti­ful hol­i­day win­dow in Haver­ford Town­ship this Hol­i­day Sea­son.”

The Haver­ford Part­ner­ship for Eco­nomic Devel­op­ment is a non-profit or­ga­ni­za­tion through which busi­ness own­ers, com­mer­cial prop­erty own­ers, res­i­dents and Haver­ford Town­ship of­fi­cials col­lab­o­rate to strengthen lo­cal busi­ness districts by help­ing ex­ist­ing busi­nesses be suc­cess­ful, wel­com­ing new busi­nesses and beau­ti­fy­ing busi­ness ar­eas.
