Cabrini freshman Lannon starting off in style at Kean Classic

Kate Lannon is quickly making her mark for the Cabrini women’s basketball team.

The freshman forward from Sun Valley scored a career-high 31 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as the Cavaliers outlasted Wheaton (Mass.) in three overtimes, 100-94, in the opening round of the Kean Classic Friday night.

Lannon had two convention­al three-point plays in the third overtime, the second with 2:37 to play to put Cabrini (2-0) ahead to stay. Nomi Washington (17 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists), Sabrina Hackendorn (16), Meghan Matthews (15) and Cassidy Gallagher (13) also scored in double figures for the Cavs, who play the winner of the SalisburyK­ean game in the championsh­ip.

In other women’s action: VILLANOVA 62, LEHIGH 42 » The Wildcats (2-0) held the Mountain Hawks to 23 percent shooting overall, 22.2 percent from 3-point range, forced 14 turnovers and limited them to 16 points in the first half. Adrianna Hahn and Mary Gedaka paced a balanced offense with 13 points apiece.

The Wildcats return to campus to take on No. 11 Duke Sunday at the Jake Nevin Field House. SWARTHMORE 58, HOUGHTON 55 » Elizabeth Stiles hit a pair of free throws with 11 seconds left to seal the victory in the opening round of the Swarthmore Tip-Off tournament. The Garnet plays RIT Saturday afternoon.

Lindsay O’Sullivan paced Swarthmore (1-1) with 14 points and seven rebounds. Abigail Pirron added nine points and five boards. WIDENER 70, ALBERTUS MAGNUS 63 » Maddie Ireland (Chichester) collected 19 points, eight assists and seven rebounds to pace the Pride in the opening round of the Drew TipOff tournament. Widener takes on host Drew in championsh­ip game at 4 Saturday afternoon.

Nikki Petri added 14 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Allison Gallagher pitched in with 13 points, seven boards and two assists. Widener had 15 assists on 22 baskets.

Men’s Basketball

Seven players were enough to get Williamson to the championsh­ip round of the Penn State Worthingto­n-Scranton Tip-Off tournament.

Ryan Carlino collected 15 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead the Mechanics to a 73-50 triumph over the host team. Williamson faces either SUNY-EFS or Davis College in the final.

Ryan Tobin (Marple Newtown) added 14 points, while Nazir Goldston (11 points), James Hill (10) and Kyree Freeman (10) also scored in double digits. WIDENER 95, BRYN ATHYN 64 » The Pride used a 32-0 run in the first half to cruise in the opening round of the Widener Tip-Off for Autism Awareness. Widener held Bryn Athyn scoreless for 9:14 to turn a 15-15 deadlock into a 47-15 lead.

Tyler Drews led Widener with 19 points. Jalen Howard and Nick Jackson pitched in with 14 points each to send the Pride into the championsh­ip game against Rosemont, a 69-68 winner over York College out of New York.
