State grant will help Aston projects

-

State Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky, D-161 of Swarthmore, two Aston improvement projects will receive a total of $700,000 in grant funds from the state.

“Congratulations to Aston Township on its successful application for these funds and its continued vision for our community,” Krueger-Braneky said. “I am excited to see these improvements made in order to provide additional safety for our residents and enhance our infrastructure and the preservation of our environmental community.”

Aston Township will receive a $500,000 grant through the Multimodal Transportation Fund to complete its multi-year project to upgrade pedestrian and streetscape facilities along Pennell Road. The improvements are designed to enhance safety, walkability of the community and spur economic development.

The second grant will provide Aston Township $200,000 in Watershed Restoration Protection funds to restore and enhance four townshipowned storm water basins. Aston owns and maintains 16 storm water basins, which are currently in poor condition. This project seeks to control peak storm water discharge rates, promote groundwater recharge, and improve water quality in the Chester Creek and West Branch Chester Creek watersheds.

According to township officials, the total project cost for both improvements is $1.2 million.
