Homeless pets get holiday treat at Providence Animal Center
UPPER PROVIDENCE » Providence Animal Center hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for some homeless dogs at its Adoption Center Wednesday, offering some holiday cheer for some pups who may not get forever homes until after the holiday.
About 50 homeless dogs and a number of cats were treated to a gourmet meal prepared and donated by www.ponzmo.com, a provider of fresh cooked, humangrade dog food.
Ponzmo founder Damian Zaccaria said the dogs had two selections for their meal — “Chicken So Delicious It Doesn’t Need A Name” and “Beef Your Human Will Try To Steal.”
Zaccaria said the meals are without preservatives and are filler-free, slow-cooked in an FDAquality kitchen in West Philadelphia.
“Holidays are a great time to add a family member,” said Justina Calgiano, director of public relations at Providence. “Think adoption first and while the center will be closed Thursday, we are open Friday 12-7 and throughout the weekend.”
Calgiano said the center has a capacity of about 120 animals and gets new pets on every day.
During the feast members of Providence Animal Center, the former Delaware County SPCA, broadcast the festivities live on Facebook for prospective pet adopters.
Unlike many human Thanksgivings, there would be no leftovers. These guests cleaned their plates.
