Remains of four Barclay residents found in rubble

County Fire Marshal’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police, West Chester Police Department, Chester County Sheriff’s Office and Chester County Department of Emergency Services.

On Wednesday, neighbors were bringing food and refreshments to ATF workers at the site, and even prepared a Thanksgiving dinner for crews who remained on duty at the fire site on the holiday.

Larry Kingsland of North Franklin Street shrugged his shoulders when he was referred to as a hero.

Kingsland had pulled residents from the smoky structure and was back at the empty and heavily damaged senior care center on Wednesday to pick up a crock pot that his wife had delivered full of hot chili to 65 ATF investigators and others still at the scene five days after the blaze.

He had also delivered chocolate chip cookies and purchased a Thanksgiving turkey that his wife intended to prepare for those working the scene.

“These guys have done such a great job,” Kingsland said about the federal investigators and local staff. “They’re displaced from their families and we figured anything we can do to help is the least we can do.

“I watched firemen running into that burning building and they’re the most incredible heroes of all time.”

Charlene Hennessy, ATF Public Information Officer, said the support of Salvation Army and Red Cross – just two of organizations and neighbors who reached out – was overwhelming.

“The whole community has really banded together to help support the residents of Barclay Friends home and the investigators,” she said.

Hennessy was pleased to report that several “precious possessions” were returned to residents and their families from portions of the building that were not heavily damaged.

Objects returned included wedding photos and other photographs, a customized leg brace and several sets of dentures.

Hennessy said that investigators separated from their families on the holiday will enjoy a meal together.

“They all volunteered to be here,” she said. “We’re here for each other.

“We’re all family.”
