Louin leads ranked ’Nova to win over Princeton

The Villanova women’s basketball team passed its first test as a nationally ranked program with a 6259 victory over Princeton Wednesday.

The No. 25 Wildcats withstood a late push by the Tigers as Alex Louin made clutch free throws down the stretch and scored a teamhigh 16 points. Adrianna Hahn added 15 points and seven rebounds. Mary Gedaka chipped in with 12 points off the bench.

Villanova (7-0) is a top-25 program for the first time since 2004. TEMPLE 69, SAINT JOSEPH’S 66» Tanaya Atkinson’s layup with 16 seconds to go gave the Owls (5-2) the Big 5 win over the Hawks, who suffered their first loss of the season. Atkinson (25 points, 13 rebounds) and Mia David (15 points, 13 rebounds) recorded doubledoub­les.

Player of the Year and Bonner & Prendergas­t graduate, finished with eight points and five rebounds for St. Joe’s. Sarah Veilleux netted a team-high 22 points. LA SALLE 66, PENN 59 » The Explorers overcame a 22-10 first-quarter deficit to beat the Quakers. Shaquana Edwards paired 20 points with six assists, and Adreana Miller added 12 points. Amy Griffin (10 points) and Bonner & Prendergas­t AllDelco Shalina Miller (10 points, five rebounds, two blocks) also hit double digits in scoring for the Explorers.(4-3), who have won three in a row. Antonio Chapman paced the Eagles (2-2) with 16 points and five assists and Jordan Johnson tossed in 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field. William Blet scored 13 points and Austin James added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles, who led at halftime, 50-21.
