Upper Darby 5-strong in triple-winners, beats Carroll

Chloe Lam, Emily Lehman, Cass Connelly, Claire Hamilton and Julia Dellaratta won three events each as Upper Darby opened the swimming season with a 96-68 nonleague girls victory over Archbishop Carroll Friday.

Lam won the 100-yard backstroke and led off the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams. Lehman was first in the 200 and 500 freestyle and was part of the winning 200 free relay team. Connelly also was on the 200 medley and 200 free relays, and was first in the 100 breaststro­ke. Hamilton won the 50 freestyle and was on two winning relay teams. Dellaratta touched the wall first in the 200 IM, the 100 butterfly and was on the winning 400 freestyle relay squad. GARNET VALLEY 107, SUN VALLEY 79 » Noelle DiClemente opened her season with a big day for the Jags. DiClement won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and was on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. Sophomore Anatasia Erley was a double winner, taking the 100 backstroke and contributi­ng to the winning 200 freestyle relay.

Sophomore Jenna Johnson led off the winning 200 medley relay team and also was first in the 100 freestyle for Sun Valley.

Boys Swimming

Kevyn Daly was a triple winner and Jack McConnell picked up a pair of wins as Upper Darby topped Archbishop Carroll, 82-46, in nonleague action.

Daly won the 200 and 500 freestyle and teamed with McConnell to win the 400 freestyle relay. McConnell was the winner in the 100 backstroke.

Sincere Gibbs took first in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly and helped the Patriots win the 200 free relay. GARNET VALLEY 104, SUN VALLEY 76 » James Greek led the way as the Jaguars used their depth to get past the Vanguards. Greek won the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle to pace GV.

Boys Hockey

Mike Irey and Johnny Stellabott­e had two goals and one assist each to lift Strath Haven to a 6-3 Central victory over Penncrest. Ryan Spanier added one goal and two assists for the Panthers. Matthew Dougherty led Penncrest with two goals. SPRINGFIEL­D 7, RADNOR 1 » Kevin Brown showed the way for the Cougars with two goals and two assists. Thomas Yocum added one goal and two assists. Thomas Winnick had the lone goal for the Raiders.

In nonleague action: RIDLEY 5, SALESIANUM 4 » Mike Desio’s goal four minutes into the third period sealed the deal for the Green Raiders. Desio finished with two goals and one assist. Michael Giampapa led the way with three goals and two assists. INTERBORO 8, KENNETT 6 » Frank Jirak collected three goals and four assists, but it was consecutiv­e goals by Konnor Oreskovich, Dylan Sangmeiste­r and Jack Reifer in the final 10 minutes of the third period that won it for the Bucs. CARDINAL O’HARA 6, HAVERFORD HIGH 1 » Liam McCanney scored twice and handed out two assists to lead the Lions. John Paul Ahearn also had a pair of goals for O’Hara. Dante Gattone had the goal for Haverford.

Girls Hockey

Maeve Hiehle poured in four goals and handed out two assists to lead Penncrest-Haven to a 7-4 victory over West Chester East. Eleanor Miller added one goal and three assists for the Panthers.
