MVP Haseltine leads TCA to title at DC tournament
Lindsay Haseltine earned Most Valuable Player honors and Hannah Sareyka was money at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to lead The Christian Academy to the title at the 53rd annual Delco Christian Invitational with a 35-17 victory over the host Knights Saturday.
Haseltine scored six of her gamehigh 11 points in the first quarter to stake the Crusaders (2-0) to an 11-3 lead. Sareyka was 5-for-6 at the free throw line in the final period to seal the victory. Dejah Burley-Chambers led TCA with 12 points and also earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Shirley Piotrowski led DC with 10 points.
In the Abington Ghosts’ Classic: ABINGTON FRIENDS 43, NOTRE DAME 35» A tough shooting night (13-for52, 25 percent) led to a second loss in as many days for the Irish.
Maggie Pina led the Irish with 13 points. Caitlyn Mullen added seven points and 14 rebounds.
In the Methacton Tournament: METHACTON 51, RIDLEY 30 » The host Warriors held the Green Raiders to three points in the fourth quarter to end any chance of a comeback.
Despite foul trouble, Dana D’Ambrosio scored eight points to lead Ridley. Lindsay Boyd and Shannon McKee chipped in with six points each for the Green Raiders.
In the Phoenixville Tip-Off: PHOENIXVILLE29,STRATHHAVEN18» The Phantoms turned up the defense to win the title. Phoenixville held the Panthers to single digits in each quarter, including one point in the second period.
Cayden Frazier led Strath Haven with six points. INTERBORO 56, CHESTER CHARTER SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS 4 » Amanda Floyd scored nine points to earn a spot on the all-tournament team and lead the Bucs to a third-place finish. Sam Bellano (eight points), Brielle Barnett (seven) and Kerri Barnett (seven) also were key contributors.
Dami Byrd and Jamerian Games scored two points each for CCSA.
In nonleague action: SACREDHEART55,UPPERMORELAND 37 » Eileen Piombino and Kyra Quigley combined for 42 points, and that was enough to power the Lions to their first win of the season.
Piombino scored 16 of her gamehigh 26 in the first half to stake the Lions to a 32-18 lead. Piombino also handed out four assists and made three steals. Quigley split her 16 points evenly between each half and also pulled down 12 rebounds. POPE JOHN PAUL II 61, AGNES IRWIN 39 » Katie Anderson scored 16 points, but a 24-9 first-quarter deficit was too much to overcome for the Owls. Paige Brala chipped in with 11 points. NORTH PENN 63, CHESTER 9 » Manija Ash led the Clippers with four points, and Monique Colbert added 3, but the Clippers (0-2) trailed 23-2 after one quarter and never recovered.
