Villanova University issues alert on reported sexual assault on campus
RADNOR » Villanova officials Tuesday sent an alert to students and staff that its public safety department had received a report of a sexual assault inside a residence hall on campus.
According to the alert, the name of the alleged perpetrator is known to the victim but not to the university or the local police.
Villanova University spokesman Jonathan Gust Thursday said the victim has asked the matter to not be investigated any further and did not provide the identity of the alleged perpetrator.
“Villanova University does not tolerate sexual assault or sexual violence in any form. Sexual assault is a violation of the university’s Code of Student Conduct, of Pennsylvania law, and of federal Title IX prohibitions,” the alert reads.
The alert went on to inform students that people accused of sexual assault or sexual violence could be prosecuted and/ or subject to action by the university.
“Even when prosecution under state law is not pursued, the university may still pursue disciplinary action through its own channels, whether the alleged sexual violence occurred on or off campus. Students who are found responsible for an act of sexual violence under the University’s Policy will be suspended or expelled from the University,” the message reads.
Radnor police referred the matter to Villanova University Department of Public Safety.
