Sacred Heart holds off W.C. East in fourth quarter
Sacred Heart Academy’s big delivered Thursday afternoon.
Eileen Piombino, Kyra Quigley and Kayleigh Doyle were the difference makers for the Lions in a 63-56 nonleague victory over West Chester East.
Piombino, a senior guard, poured in a game-high 24 to go with four assists and three steals. Quigley, a junior center/forward, registered a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. She also notched four blocks and three assists.
Doyle had the best game of her young career, scoring a personal best 14 points, including eight combined points during Sacred Heart’s 32-18 run across the second and third quarters. Piombino netted 14 of her points over that span.
The reigning District 1 Class 2A champion Lions led by as many as 18 points in the second half. East stormed back in the final periods thanks to five 3-point field goals. The Lions were able to withstand a strong effort by East’s Mackenzie Richardson, who banked five treys and scored 20 points.
In other nonleague action: IMHOTEP CHARTER 49, PENN WOOD 37 » The Patriots (1-2) were outscored 1810 in the second quarter and never recovered despite Carle Andrews’ 18 points and six boards.
Raquel Curry had seven points and Jada Hutt chipped in with four points, six rebounds and a blocked shot. Ashley Cyrus (two points, four steals, three assists) and Saleia Matthews (four points, three assists) had solid floor games. HARRY S. James Silvi won by fall in the second-to-last match at 152 pounds to give Episcopal Academy the lead to stay en route to a 39-33 nonleague triumph over Westtown School.
Frederick Greene’s 4-3 decision in the 160-pound bout sealed the victory for the Churchmen. Alex Bendinelli (126) earned a pin, while Jesse Bell-Taylor (170) and Paul McLaughlin (220) both picked up decisions.

Bobby Gibson tallied two goals and three assists as The Haverford School edged Lower Merion, 6-5, in an Inter County Scholastic Hockey League crossover contest. Steve Roccia recorded a pair of goals, while Aiden Mantelmacher and Cal Buonocore each netted a goal for the Fords.
