McMahon sets career high as Widener wins in Fla.

A trip to sunny Florida agreed with Widener’s Ryan McMahon.

The 6-3 junior point guard scored a career-high 21 points to pace the Pride to a 78-73 victory over Moravian in the first day of the HoopMia D3 Holiday Shootout in Miami.

McMahon saved 13 of his points for the second half and hit a pair of jumpers in a 6-0 run that gave Widener (5-5) a 77-71 lead with 2:46 to play in the game. McMahon also contribute­d eight rebounds and four assists.

Tyler Drews pitched in with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists to help the Pride to its second straight win. Sam Smith added 13 points and three assists, while Sardayah Sambo tallied 10 points and blocked four shots. Widener closes out the trip against Mount St. Mary College from New York at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Jimmy Murray led Moravian with 17 points. DREXEL 72, QUINNIPIAC 71 » Kurk Lee buried a 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left to win it for the Dragons.

Rich Kelly hit the back end of a two-shot foul with 13 seconds left to cap a 5-0 run to give the Bobcats a 71-69 lead. Isaiah Washington put Quinnipiac ahead on a layup 13 seconds earlier.

Drexel had one more chance and Lee didn’t miss. Kelly had an opportunit­y to win it, but his 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark.

Tramaine Isabell scored 23 points to pace the Dragons (6-6). Lee and Alihan Demir added 14 points each and Sammy Mojica had 13 for Drexel. Young paced Quinnipiac (3-8) with a game-high 24 points.

Players of the Week

Khalil Garnes of Haverford College was named Centennial Conference Player of the Week in men’s basketball for the first time in his career.

The 6-2 junior guard averaged 19 points per game in a win over Bryn Athyn and a loss to Eastern. He shot 6-for-10 from the field and 13-for-15 from the free throw line to score a career-high 26 points in the win over Bryn Athyn. He followed that with a 12-point performanc­e in the loss to the Eagles.

Garnes lead the Fords (4-6 overall, 1-3 Centennial Conference) in scoring (14.3 ppg), free throws made (39) and attempted (49) and assists (25).

Eastern’s Darius Washington earned MAC Freedom Conference Player of the Week honors in men’s basketball. He averaged 17 points and seven rebounds in wins over Rowan and Haverford.

Washington had career highs of 19 points and seven rebounds in a 97-92 victory over Rowan. Less than 24 hours later Washington scored 15 points and matched his careerhigh with seven rebounds in an 83-75 victory over the Fords.
