Clifton Heights mom delivers just an hour into new year

-

UPPER DARBY » Desiree Jaquett and Nicholas Degaetano of Clifton Heights had more than one reason to celebrate on New Year’s Day. Due to give birth on Jan. 14, 2018, Jaquett, 32, had a feeling she’d deliver her third child on New Year’s Day – and that son Oliver Nicolas would be Delaware County’s first baby of the New Year. Her intuition would prove correct.

On New Year’s Eve, Jaquett was completing her shift at Acme, where she works as a front-end clerk. Around 3 p.m. she started feeling discomfort.

“I kept telling everyone I thought I was in labor,” Jaquett said, “but I waited until my shift was over at 8:30 p.m., went home, then went to the hospital at 10 p.m.” Jaquett spent the next three hours in labor at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, and at 1:07 a.m., Oliver was born, weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces and measuring 19 1/2 inches in length. He joins big sister Elizabeth, 11, and brother Daniel, 8, who mom says are thrilled to have a little brother.

Jaquett said that New Year’s Day is typically reserved for family get-togethers, and that Oliver’s birth will give special meaning to these gatherings.

“I’m not typically a lucky person, but I consider him my good luck charm,” mom said. “In a way, he’s kind of famous and I’m thrilled he is finally here.”

Crozer-Chester Medical Center also had a special delivery on New Year’s Day – baby boy Legacy Graves. Legacy weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and measured 19 1/2 inches in length. Mom Jaimiah Waheed, 19, of Trainer, delivered her son at 4:10 p.m. Legacy came into the world just two days shy of his due date of Jan. 3. Knowing she was so close to delivery day, Waheed decided to spend New Year’s Eve at home and watch the ball drop in Times Square. It’s a tradition she enjoys every year and that she plans to share with Legacy and his 18-monthold brother, Leryc. “My plan is to take Legacy to New York City when he is old enough and celebrate his birthday by watching the ball drop in person,” Waheed said.
