Garnet Valley wins last Hi-Q match before break, season resumes this week

CONCORD » Delco Hi-Q held a single match in the week before its holiday break. With home court advantage, Garnet Valley High School’s Hi-Q team dominated their first match of the 2017-2018 season. The Jaguars staved off rivals Strath Haven and Penncrest, taking an early lead and holding it through the match.

All three teams were quick on the draw to pick up the occasional missed questions and earn bonus points, and all three earned maximum points in the Sports and Team Choice toss-up categories. GVHS also earned maximum points in ten additional categories compared to Strath Haven and Penncrest, which earned maximum points in nine and eight additional categories respective­ly.

Final scores were Garnet Valley 54; Strath Haven 46; Penncrest 44.

Each of the 21 participat­ing Delaware County high schools has had an opportunit­y to compete once this season, and will continue to study, practice, and strategize in an effort to win a playoff berth. To date, Radnor boasts the highest score at 58 points, followed by Garnet Valley with 54 and Delaware County Christian School with 52. Their competitor­s who are motivated to amass points in their second and third competitio­ns.

The season resumes today, Wednesday, Jan. 3, with Marple Newtown hosting Academy Park and Interboro at 10 a.m. Later this week, Upper Darby will host Cardinal O’Hara and Delaware County Christian School, and Chichester will host Radnor and Ridley.
