Glenolden fireman receives state-wide honor for lifelong efforts
Tom L. Savage III, a life member of the Glenolden Fire Co., was recently presented with the Charles A. “Chet” Henry Fire Service Advocacy Award. The annual award recognizes one who has improved awareness of fire, emergency-service or life-safety issues, whether at a local, county, regional, state or national level. Established in 2015 by the Pennsylvania Fire and Emergency Services Institute (PFESI), the award encourages emergency-service advocates to develop and maintain leadership that strives to improve public safety across Pennsylvania and the country.
Upon receiving the award, Savage thanked his wife Frances for her many years of support to his fire service activities and all the individuals who really made things happen by all their hard work to support to his efforts. He especially commended the Delaware County Firemen’s Association for its many years of support to his activities and for their outstanding support to the establishment and ongoing programs of PFESI.
Tom L. Savage III is a life member of the Glenolden Fire Co., where he joined in 1964, and served in various administrative positions including president and is a past member of the board.
He also is a life member and past president of the Delaware County Firemen’s Association and currently serves as treasurer. Tom was an active member of the group that helped organized the Congressional Fire Service Institute and the Pa. Fire Service Institute. He was the first president of the PFESI Statewide Advisory Board and for eight years was the fulltime executive director of the PFESI, and currently serves as treasurer.
He is a past president of the Pa. Firemen’s Legislative Federation and assisted with the Cumberland Valley Firemen’s Association Reputational Management Program. He is currently active with St Mathew Lutheran Church in Springfield and serves on the Endowment committee and Church Council.
