The constable of the First Ward of Chester resigned his position in court yesterday after he had been called upon to explain why he was in an alleged gambling place on Sixth Street near Welsh Street when it was raided on Dec. 30. Pennsylvania State University will not be deterred by a governor’s veto from constructing its first permanent building in Delaware County. Shafer has vetoed a bill which would have authorized the county commissioners to borrow funds for “establishing, extending or enlarging” Penn State’s new campus.

A 15-vehicles pile-up on Interstate 95 North, about 500 feet north of the Blue Route, during Friday morning’s rush hour resulted in the towing of seven damaged vehicles, Ridley Township police reported. None of the motorists were able to give police a description of two vehicles involved that left the scene, according to police Capt. Richard Herron. Traffic backed up to the Highland Avenue exit, about four miles. 10 Years Ago – 2008: Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider Tuesday called the Wachovia Spectrum his “baby,” and although it appears the building is about to become extinct, he’s not ready to throw it out with the bath water just yet. In a press conference to unveil plans for a major entertainment development project on a plot of land located between the Spectrum and the Wachovia Center, Snider still held out slim hope that the final project can be completed without demolishing the former home of the Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers.
