Samuel (Sam) Coco, age 95 of Newtown Square, passed away on January 23, 2018.

He was the beloved husband of the late Freda (nee Leon). Devoted father of Kathryn Coco and Brian Coco. Grandfathe­r of Nicole Coco.

Sam was born September 25, 1922 in Stroudsbur­g, PA. He was the Son of the late Carmella and Conchetta (Scagliota) Coco who emigrated from Sicily, Italy and became prominent business owners of a produce market in Tannersvil­le soon thereafter.

He was preceded in death by five siblings: Frank Coco, Anthony Coco, Austin (Chic) Coco, Mary Vineyard and Caroline Kulak.

He and his brothers have been honored many times as being the only family in Monroe County to have all male siblings enlist in the Armed Forces.

Sam had a successful career as a manager with the Prudential Insurance Company and retired after 30 years of service, having obtained many top sales awards. As a member of the Historical Car Club of PA and Roadrunner­s he toured his Model A Ford which he restored completely himself.

Sam’s love of history and his commitment to helping others led him to be involved in many organizati­ons including: Newtown Square Railroad Museum Associatio­n (freight station), Veterans Museum of Newtown Square, Delaware County Veteran’s Memorial Associatio­n, Newtown Square Historical Society and the Rotary Club of Newtown Square.

Sam was a proud veteran of World War II and continued his service to veterans speaks volumes about his patriotism and love of country. Over the course of service, he was awarded many medals and on November 17, 2016 he was awarded the Freedom Medal by Delaware County Veterans Memorial Associatio­n.

Sam met his wife Freda in England and it was love at first sight. They had a wonderful 54 years of marriage.

‘Sam was an amazing man who was kind to everyone and always put a smile on people’s faces, His heart was pure and he made an impact on everyone that he met. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing his life experience­s. He will be sorely missed but live on in our hearts forever.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday Eve. from 6:00-7:30PM at the Frank C. Videon Funeral Home, Sproul and Lawrence Roads, Broomall. Followed by his Funeral Service at 7:30 PM.
