REGIONAL RAIL SERVICE

There will be increased service on the Regional Rail Line but fewer stations in service so as to avoid the kinds of problems the transit agency encountered in 2008 when many fans were left stranded at trains stations, bypassed by trains that were already filled. An estimated 500,000 commuters are expected, and SEPTA encourages new riders to have passes purchased ahead of time, though any remaining of the additional 50,000 special parade-day passes will be sold at operating train facilities. Those passes are $10. Service to Center City will be available via Jefferson and 30th Street Stations, which are a short walk from the parade route. For the return trip, customers must board at the same Center City station where they departed. For more information on fares and train travel times, please visit the Eagles Parade page on SEPTA’s website at http://www.septa. org/eagles.

For parade-day travel on Regional Rail, customers must have one of the following fare products: A Weekly or Monthly TrailPass, an Independence Pass, or a pre-purchased senior/reduced fare ticket. Starting on Tuesday, SEPTA will sell a special discounted Independence Pass for $10. The pass will be available at sales locations, and in limited numbers the day of the parade at open stations.

SEPTA urges customers to purchase passes before the day of the parade, and sales office hours will be extended through Wednesday.

ROAD CLOSURES

Expect travel in the city to be hectic Thursday. Road Closures will create significant travel delays Thursday. Motorists are advised to avoid the area by using alternate routes, and allow for extra driving time when traveling in the vicinity. Please refrain from double-parking, which creates congestion, limits traffic flow and is illegal. Road closures are scheduled to be implemented by 10 a.m. Thursday and likely be in effect through 6 p.m. All roads are expected to be reopened in time for the a.m. rush hour Friday. See the full list of road closures here.

FOOD, FACILITIES

The city will allow 40 food trucks to set up shop, with 20 near 21st Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, and the other 20 food trucks at 20th and Winter streets by the Franklin Institute. The city estimates they will have 850 portable toilets set up along the parade route.

EMERGENCIES:

The Philadelphia Fire Department will have two medical tents along the parade route, at 4th Street & Benjamin Franklin Parkway on the south side; and 21st Street & Benjamin Franklin Parkway on the north side.

SUGGESTIONS

City officials are urging those planning to attend the parade to have a plan regarding how they will get there, where they will park and in particular supervision of children. Those attending will likely have to walk from transit stations to the parade and celebrate route. Wear comfortable attire.

• Leave no bags or items unattended. Report any suspicious activity or unattended item to police or call 911.

After a very messy Wednesday, things should clear out Thursday, but expect it to be cold. Sunny, with a high near 33. Winds 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
