Bergeron scores 2, Bruins rout Rangers

NEW YORK » Riley Nash and Zdeno Chara scored first-period goals and Patrice Bergeron added two in the second to help the surging Boston Bruins swamp the New York Rangers 6-1 on Wednesday night.

The Bruins won for the 18th time in their last 23 games, getting 21 saves from backup netminder Anton Khudobin. The Bruins (33-11-8) are just a point behind Atlantic Division-leading Tampa Bay.

Tim Schaller’s goal that made it 4-1 at 7:25 of the second period chased Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and brought boos from the crowd at Madison Square Garden.

Sean Kuraly also scored for Boston. Rick Nash scored for New York. MAPLE LEAFS 3, PREDATORS 2 » James van Riemsdyk scored in regulation and again in the seventh round of a shootout in Toronto’s victory over Nashville.

Kasperi Kapanen also scored in regulation to help the Maple Leafs win for the sixth time in seven games. Frederik Andersen made 44 saves to improve to 7-1-0 against Nashville.

Colton Sissons and Viktor Arvidsson scored for the Predators, and Pekka Rinne stopped 30 shots.

Ottawa’s Burrows suspended 10 games

NEW YORK » Ottawa forward Alexandre Burrows was suspended for 10 games without pay by the NHL on Wednesday for serving as the aggressor in an altercatio­n and kneeing New Jersey forward Taylor Hall.

Burrows was assessed two minor penalties, one for cross-checking and one for roughing on the play midway through the second period in the Senators’ 5-3 home victory Tuesday night.

Wild’s Brodin out 3-4 weeks with broken hand

ST. PAUL, MINN. » Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin will miss the next three to four weeks recovering from a broken left hand.

The Wild announced Brodin had surgery Wednesday. He’s one of the top four blue-liners and by far the team’s leader with a plus-19 rating.

Brodin was hurt in the second period at St. Louis on Tuesday night. The Wild beat the Blues 6-2 in their third straight game with their entire lineup available, after a number of injuries to their forwards scattered throughout the season.
