Enough with chants ... what about games?

-

The combination of Eaglesrelated rapture and a little icy precipitation Wednesday may do wonders for turnout in Philadelphia at Thursday’s parade, but it has wreaked havoc on the final week of the PIAA basketball regular season, with games shuttling back and forth by the day and playoff tilts requiring rescheduling.

The last round of games in the Central League for both boys and girls was supposed to be played Thursday but moved up a day to Wednesday to accommodate the parade before many were postponed by wintry conditions. The postponement of those games to Friday — five boys games and six girls — mean that the league semifinals and finals have been pushed back a day. Games will start at 12:30 Sunday at Marple Newtown, where the No. 2 and No. 3 seeded boys teams will play. The girls semifinal will follow at 2:15 and the other boys semi at 4. (The three-game format is contingent on Garnet Valley girls beating Conestoga Friday to finish unbeaten in the league and ensure that only three teams make the field).

Monday’s finals will be held at Harriton. Those games don’t factor into the District 1 brackets, which will be released Sunday.

Also moved from Wednesday is the pivotal boys Catholic League Class 5A meeting between Archbishop Wood and Archbishop Carroll, shifted to next Monday.

Friday will see 14 boys basketball games and 12 girls games, including the three boys Del Val games which had been slated for Thursday. Three wrestling matches in the Central League have also moved from Wednesday to Friday.

Only three games, including the Devon Prep-Delco Christian boys basketball game, have survived for Thursday’s parade-blighted schedule as many schools are closed.
