Temple wins behind Rose’s 23

PHILADELPH­IA » Quinton Rose scored 23 points, Josh Brown had 17 points and eight rebounds, and Temple never trailed in defeating East Carolina 90-73 on Wednesday night to win its fourth straight.

Shizz Alston Jr. added 14 points with seven assists, J.P. Moorman II had 11 points and 12 rebounds and Ernest Aflakpui and Nate Pierre-Louis scored 10 points apiece for the Owls (1410, 6-6 American Athletic Conference).

ECU closed to 51-50 on Kentrell Barkley’s back-to-back 3s, but Temple pulled away on a 12-0 run while the Pirates (9-14, 3-9) went scoreless for 4½ minutes. The Owls led 73-63 on Damion Moore’s dunk with 7:31 left.

Brown hit consecutiv­e baskets for a 15-4 lead and Temple led by as many as 12 in the first half and was up 41-35 at halftime behind his 11 points. GEORGE WASHINGTON 80, LA SALLE 69 » Yuta Watanabe hit from distance, threw down dunks and scored a career-high 29 points as George Washington upended La Salle, ending a fourgame slide.

Patrick Steeves and Arnoldo Toro scored 15 points each for George Washington, which led for all but two minutes. Watanabe shot 11 of 20 from the floor, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range. He added eight rebounds.

The Colonials (10-14, 3-8 Atlantic 10) led 39-33 at the half. La Salle (10-14, 4-7) couldn’t catch up with 38-percent shooting and 17 turnovers and fell to 2-12 on the road.

Pookie Powell and Saul Phiri scored 16 points each for La Salle, B. J. Johnson added 14. The trio was a combined 17 of 38. Freshman Miles Brookins added 11 points.
