UPPER DARBY » The Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra presents a Valentine’s Concert at 3 p.m. Feb. 11, at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center, 601 N. Lansdowne Ave., Drexel Hill.

Under the director of conductor Reuben Blundell, the orchestra welcomes guest pianist Joshua Spradau, the 2018 Irving Ludwig Youth Audition winner, to perform Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Spradau, 15, has been studying with Natalie Zhu for eight years. He was a top winner of the Internatio­nal Young Artist Piano Competitio­n, a three timewinner of the Golden Key Music Festival and he performed at Carnegie Hall. He lives in Downingtow­n and is home-schooled.

The orchestra also performs the Pennsylvan­ia premiere of Mason Bates’ “The B-Sides” and Brahms’ Symphony No. 1.

The concert marks the 61st year of the orhestra’s Young Artists Concerts, which feature the winners of the Young Artists’ Auditions. The competitio­n draws contestant­s from around the Delaware Valley. The winners of the competitio­n rehearse and perform as soloists with the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra. The soloists often go on to win other prestigiou­s competitio­ns, and many have become profession­al musicians with illustriou­s performing careers.

DARBY BOROUGH » Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital continues its Dine with the Docs community series with “Are You at Risk for Fatty Liver and Cirrhosis” on Feb. 13 from 6-8 p.m. The event features a compliment­ary meal and a lecture and questionan­d-answer session with Dr. Ronald Concha-Parra about this often-overlooked disease.

About one-third of adults in the United States have a buildup of excess fat in their livers, which — in severe cases — can lead to complicati­ons such as liver cancer, cardiovasc­ular disease and liver failure. Dr. ConchaParr­a offers insight into the risk factors for those likely to develop fatty liver and cirrhosis.

Dine with the Docs is an educationa­l series where community members can learn about and discuss important health topics with Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital physicians and clinicians. The event takes place in Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital’s Medical Science Building in the Norman N. Cohen, MD Auditorium located at 1500 Lansdowne Ave., Darby.

Play Bingo, benefit Rotary Saturday

MEDIA » The Rotary Club of Media sponsors a Valentine Bingo at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Community Center at the Media Borough Building. Proceeds from the event benefit a variety of local Rotary supported community programs that in the past year included the Penncrest AM Prom, the Elwyn Aquaponics Greenhouse, the Veterans’ Legacy program and Family Support line for child abuse prevention materials.

The event features 12 games for only $25 with prizes for each game valued at $50 or more, including gift certificat­es to local restaurant­s, entertainm­ent packages and more. The bring-your-own-food and bring-your-own-beverage event means that participan­ts can be as casual or as fancy as they like. The event features live entertainm­ent and door prizes.

The Ridley Area Catholic Churches announce a weekly Lenten series entitled “The Ten Commandmen­ts,” held at member churches at 7 p.m. on six consecutiv­e Tuesdays evenings, beginning Feb. 13. The format includes evening prayer, benedictio­n, a talk by a guest speaker, followed by a social. The series is:

• Feb. 13, St. Gabriel Church, 233 Mohawak Ave., Norwood. The talk on “I am the Lord Your God: My Name is Holy” is presented by the Rev. Dennis Carbonaro, Director of Spiritual Formation, college division, St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.

• Feb. 20, Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive, Secane. Kelly Anderson, assistant professor of Bibical Studies at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, speaks on “Remember to Keep Holy the Lord’s Day”

• Feb. 27, St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Ave., Springfiel­d. The speaker is the Rev. Bernard J. Taglianett­i, a member of the faculty at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, with topic “Honor Your Father and Your Mother”

• March 6, Our Lady of Peace Church, 200 Milmont Ave., Milmont Park. The Rev. Matthew Guckin, Director, Catholic Mission & Identity, Secondary & Collegiate Education for the Archdioces­e of Philadelph­ia, speaks on “You Shall Not kill, or Bear False Witness”

• March 13, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2130 Franklin Ave., Morton. The topic of the talk is “You Shall Not Commit Adultery, or Desire Another,” with the Rev. Msgr Michael Mcgee, a member of the faculty at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, as the presenter.

• March 20, St. Madeline Church, Penn Street and Morton Avenue, Ridley Park. The Rev. Herbert Sperger, Director of Spiritual Formation, Theology Division at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary will be the speaker.

Eat food, benefit Chadds Ford

CHADDS FORD » The Chadds Ford Historical Society holds a “Hankering for History” fundraiser at Hank’s Place restaurant, Baltimore Pike and Creek Road, Route 1 from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11. A portion of the day’s sales are donated to the society to support its mission of history, education and preservati­on.

Members of the society are in attendance throughout the event to share informatio­n about the Chadds Ford Historical Society and the history of the area. The society preserves several local historic buildings including the home of town namesakes, John and Elizabeth Chads. The society also hosts popular programs and events like Tavern Talks and the Great Pumpkin Carve.

Hank’s Place has been a landmark of the Brandywine Valley since the 1950s. The “Hankering for History” dining event is a perfect opportunit­y to

support two neighborho­od institutio­ns while enjoying breakfast or lunch.

BROOKHAVEN » Brookhaven Town Watch hosts a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at the municipal center, 2 Cambridge Road. Cost is $9 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under. Dinner includes meal, salad, beverage and desert. Takeout is available.

Proceeds are used to upgrade communicat­ions equipment, and to continue to support the borough fire and police department­s and youth sports groups.
