100 Years Ago – 1918:

The poor aim of an Ellsworth Street man was instrument­al in preventing another murder being added to Chester’s list of crime on Sunday morning when the man became infuriated over the boisterous actions of a border in his home, secured a shotgun, leveled it at the border and fired. The border left early Saturday evening and after visiting several saloons, soon had more than his share of “fire water.” When he arrived back home he was in a fighting mood and endeavored to start trouble with others in the house. 75 Years Ago – 1943: Attention has been called to a number of omissions in the new edition of the Chester Times Year Book and Almanac, which officials and other subscriber­s failed to send in to the Year Book editor. The Chester Times will appreciate a memo from anyone who notices omissions or who has suggestion for revisions. We should like to star now, while the new edition is receiving its first, close attention in order to compile authentic data for the succeeding edition.

50 Years Ago – 1968:

The Delaware County Daily Times will begin publishing Monday a 14-article series on “Cut Your Own Taxes” Ray De Crane, tax expert and veteran newspaperm­an. This could save you money when you sit down to itemize your deductions and fill out your tax form for 1967. The series will bring Daily Times readers the up-to-the minute, latest advice in simple, concise language that has won De Crane the Internal Revue Service’s Meritoriou­s Public Service Award.

25 Years Ago – 1993:

State and township health officials are joining emergency department physicians in trying to determine the source of a sickness that sent 60 Villanova University students to the hospital and caused about 25 others to seek medical attention for stomach ailments. Some students experience­d extreme drops in blood pressure. 10 Years Ago – 2008: More than 60 residents recently gathered to hear a presentati­on by the Pennsylvan­ia Department of Transporta­tion concerning the first phase of its $110 million Route 322 expansion project in Concord Township. PennDOT plans to expand Route 322 from two lanes to four lanes from I-95 to Route 1, as well as lessen left-turn lanes at key intersecti­ons throughout the corridor. Constructi­on is projected to begin on phase one of the expansion in 2012 and is planned to last three years.
