Pay attention to the needs of the people

- Raubie M. Green, Chester

To the Editor: We have crossed over into the New Year. There are many people looking forward to a new year with a chance to help our young adults. A lot of our fight to help bringing down the crime rate in our city has been a hard job. Chester has been doing a good job fighting to help our community grow.

Our young adults have been killing each other, not only in Chester — Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Delaware also have high crime rates. We have a long the way to go if we are to help fight our crime rate. Still we have to keep our minds on what is most important to help us.

Drugs, killings, raping, hit and runs leaving the people on the streets, robbery, home invasions and gun control are what we hear about. Many of us have a lot to be concerned about. We don’t need to add racism to our fight against crime. It took years for us to come together as one people no matter what race we are. I feel it’s time to pay attention to the needs of people. Jobs are needed, more programs for our young adults are needed. Senior citizens definitely need more help. People are tired of hearing about what to do for the high income, we need to remember the low income.

We need more help with Medicare, we need more help from Social Security, Social Security Income and the welfare systems. The people voted in office to run the United States of America. If the people we put in office to help us and help fight the crime rate could do a better job if they stopped getting arrested and locked up for their crimes.

Chester is making a difference and we are still growing. New Jersey is doing a good job in their fight against crime, Delaware is doing a good job, Philadelphia is still having a hard time and we know that the City of Brotherly Love will keep that name. Philly is one of our biggest cities and has more people.

The bigger the city, the bigger the crime rate will be and they are doing a good job trying to bring that crime rate down. All of our cities have the same problem with homeless people and remember they too are low-income people as well.
