Former players honor Perretta after Wildcats win

Nearly 70 former players returned to Villanova for alumnae day and help Harry Perretta celebrate his 40th season as the women’s basketball coach.

And so it was only fitting that a pair of 3-point field goals, a staple in Perretta’s offensive attack, propelled the Wildcats to a 59-53 Big East victory over Seton Hall Sunday at Jake Nevin Field House.

Kelly Jekot’s triple early in the second quarter ignited a 13-0 that broke the game open. Jannah Tucker ended the outburst with a 3-pointer that gave the Wildcats (20-5, 10-4 Big East) a 2410 lead. Seton Hall never got closer than the sixpoint final spread.

Jekot and Alex Louin paced a balanced attack with 12 points apiece. Louin also pulled down 14 rebounds. Adrianna Hahn added 10 points to move into 21st place with 1,065 career points. The Wildcats have won five in a row and six of their last seven games. The outburst turned 35-29 lead into a commanding a 52-29 advantage. Kelsi Lidge led a balanced attack with 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Aubree Brown added 10 points, seven boards and three assists.

Drexel had eight players score between six and 11 points, including Cardinal O’Hara All-Delco Hannah Nihill, who finished with four points, two rebounds and two steals.

Men’s Basketball

Going scoreless for the first three minutes wasn’t what doomed Williamson in a 69-41 loss to Stratford University.

It was the 22-2 run the Cardinals went on later in the first half that was the difference. Williamson cut an 8-0 deficit to one and then scored just two points over the next 11 minutes, 5 seconds as the Cardinals opened up a 30-9 lead.

Williamson played Stratford close in the second half, but never recovered from that dry spell in the first half. Darnill Brown led the Mechanics (10-16) with 19 points. He also had four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Ryan Carlino chipped in with 10 points, two assists and two steals.
