Eastern storms back to snap streak

Eastern erased an 18-point deficit in the second half and snapped a nine-game slide with 5952 win over Delaware Valley Tuesday.

The Eagles (5-19) bounced back from a dreadful first half with a 27-5 run after intermissi­on. Eastern was 0-for-13 from 3-point range in the first half and went nearly 13 minutes with only one basket in the middle part of the half. The visiting Aggies led 28-8 with four minutes to go before the break.

“We were not good in the first half,” Eastern coach Eric Houston said in a press release. “But we started to play with a little more energy at the defensive end in the final minutes. I challenged them to bring energy and to think about their effort and not the score.”

Eastern got within striking distance in the third quarter, shooting 9 of 19 from the floor. Regie Robinson put the Eagles in front and consecutiv­e buckets from freshman Da’Naziah Brown extended the lead to five points with 4:37 to play.

Amanda Riff led a balanced Eastern attack with 12 points. Taylor Azer added 12 points and Taylor Price scored 11 points, dished out nine assists, and grabbed seven rebounds. The visiting Knights ran away with a 19-6 run to begin the third quarter. Widener shot 34.5 percent (19-for-55) and committed 24 turnovers. Men’s Basketball

Eastern secured a berth in the Middle Atlantic Conference tournament with an 86-79 decision over Delaware Valley.

Antonio Chapman scored a team-high 19 points for the Eagles (1410), who shot 50 percent (33-for-66) from the field and made 11 3-point baskets. Darius Washington was 4 of 5 from long range and finished with 17 points. Jordan Johnson tossed in 12 points and Austin James chipped in with nine points and 10 boards for Eastern. WIDENER 86, ARCADIA 70 » Coming off a career-high 40-point performanc­e, Tyler Drews poured 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Pride. Sam Smith reached double figures with 14 points.

Sardayah Sambo had a productive game, as he tallied 12 points, six rebounds, and six blocks in just 18 minutes. Jalen Howard added 10 points for the Pride (1410), who held a 44-31 advantage on the glass and connected on 10-point 3-pointers for the second straight game. Widener used a 19-3 run to open a 24-8 lead midway through the first half and never looked back.
