Goodman’s big night helps give Penn win

NEW YORK » Devon Goodman, who had scored 35 points all season, came off the bench to hit five 3-pointers and piled up 23 points to lead Pennsylvan­ia to a 74-62 victory on Friday night that kept the Quakers tied with Harvard atop the Ivy League.

Goodman made 5 of 8 shots from the arc while the rest of Quakers were 4 of 21. He added five assists.

Caleb Wood added 16 points and AJ Brodeur 14 for the Quakers (18-7, 8-1), who bounced back from a loss to Harvard.

Goodman, who scored 18 points in the first half, hit a 3-pointer to start an 18-0 run that gave Penn a 68-54 lead with 2:30 left in the game before Columbia’s Kyle Castlin’s 3-point play ended Columbia’s 5½-minute scoring drought. Brodeur scored six points during the run.

Mike Smith scored 16 points for the Lions (6-16, 3-6) with Nate Hickman adding 13. ST. BONAVENTUR­E 77, RHODE ISLAND 74 » Matt Mobley scored 26 points and grabbed a key rebound with 4.2 seconds left, and St. Bonaventur­e (20-6, 10-4 Atlantic 10) beat Rhode Island (21-3, 13-1) to snap the 16th-ranked Rams’ 16game winning streak.

LaDarien Griffin scored 10 of the Bonnies last 14 points over the final six minutes in rallying them back from a 67-61 deficit — St. Bonaventur­e’s largest of the game. The Bonnies won their eighth straight and stayed in the hunt for the regular-season conference title.
