Radnor’s Horvath looking to repeat at Centrals; Chi favored at Del Vals

Radnor’s Jack Horvath has ruled the 182-pound weight class in the Central League for the past three years.

The senior is going for his third straight league title at Saturday’s Central League championsh­ips at Ridley High School.

Wrestling starts at 10 and consolatio­ns are at 5:20 p.m.

The top six wrestlers move on to the District 1 Class 3A Central championsh­ips next week at Boyertown High School.

Horvath (17-1), the top seed at 182, has won 11 matches in a row since suffering his only loss of the season Jan. 13, a 6-3 decision to Jonathan Vizcarrond­o of Faith Christian in the final at the Church Farm Invitation­al.

Springfiel­d’s David Bagirov and Penncrest’s Brendon Stocku are the only other returning champions.

Bagirov (19-4) is the No. 1 seed at 126. He won the 120-pound class a year ago.

Stocku (28-1) is the top seed at He won at 132 pounds last year.

The other top seeds are: Ridley freshman Chris Green (21-4) at 106; freshman Morgan Lofland (28-3) of Conestoga at 113; Lower Merion sophomore Christian Hodges (26-4) at 120; senior Jake McGrath of Ridley (17-7) at 132; Upper Darby’s Justin O’Donnell (26-3) at 145; sophomore James Lledo (27-2) of Lower Merion at 152; Strath Haven junior John Crawford (22-7) at 160 and Panther senior Brett Burns (24-5) at 170; Conestoga senior Scott Jean (166) and junior Paul Pelham (26-3) at 195 and 220, respective­ly and Strath Haven senior Lee Holbert (25-3) at 285.

Elsewhere, it’s easy to see how Chichester stormed to the Del Val League title.

The Eagles have eight of the 14 No. 1 seeds and one of the three returning champions in junior Josiah Nichols (18-9) for the league tournament a.m. The finals slated to begin 138. that gets under way at at Academy Park.

Nicholas is back to defend at 132 pounds.

Chi’s other No. 1 seeds are freshman Chase Whartnaby (26-1) at 106, sophomore Mason McClure (21-6) at 120, junior Marquell Hudnell (21-6) at 145, senior Jovani Perez (23-4) at 152, senior Noah Harvey (23-4) at 170, sophomore Matt Richardson (18-7) at 195 and junior Faizan Raza (18-9) at 285.

Interboro’s Osvaldo Carbajal (21-7) won the 106-pound title last year as a freshman and is one of four top seeds for the Bucs. He is No. 1 at 113. The other top seeds for Interboro are freshman Aiden McDevitt (16-13) at 126, freshman Dylan Lajudice (1513) at 138 and senior Anthony Zizza (17-11) at 182, Penn Wood senior Dan Dumas (22-4) the other returning champion. He won the 195-pound title a year ago and is the top seed at 220 pounds.

Senior teammate Marcus Brogsdale (18-12) is the top seed at 160.

With only five teams in the there will be few breaks.

The finals and consolatio­n round are expected to start around 12:30, according to AP coach John Basile.

The top three wrestlers in each weight class advance to the District 1 Class 3A West championsh­ips at Interboro.

The Ches-Mont League championsh­ips get under way at 8 a.m. at Rustin High School.

Sun Valley sophomore Hunter Catka (28-1) is the top seed at 220. He finished second at 195 last year and advanced to the PIAA championsh­ips.

Teammates Avery Frank (23-7) and Nicholas Bailey (25-2) are the No. 2 seeds at 160 and 182, respective­ly, and freshman Ryan Catka (22-6) is the No. 4 seed at 170.
