Many women leave the workforce to provide care for children or other relatives. Some work part-time jobs with flexible hours to accommodate family schedules. Participants receive support, personal attention and a structured approach to career planning and decisionmaking. They also explore their strengths and possible career options, develop a career-action plan, create a resume, develop a LinkedIn Profile and practice effective interviewing skills. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personality test is used extensively and is included in the price of the workshop.

The workshop is facilitated by Susan Miller, a counselor in the College’s Career and Counseling Center, and Peggy Schils, a licensed professional counselor and counselor in the Career and Counseling Center. Reignite Your Career provides structure and support for men and women attempting to cope with the uncertainty of a changing job market. The workshop is targeted to those considering a change in career direction such as the unemployed, the underemployed, or the unhappily employed.

Participants learn how to manage their own careers and take the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory to assess career satisfiers and occupational interests. They use card sorts to identify motivated skills, burn-out skills and personal priorities. In addition, participants identify their strongest marketable skills and develop an individualized plan to move ahead proactively. One-to-one consultation appointments with one of the group leaders will be scheduled, and later sessions will explore networking strategies and online tools including LinkedIn and will emphasize the importance of taking a proactive role in career decision making.
