Hi-Q semi-finals underway; top points leader Garnet Valley moves to championship

-

Semi-finals competitions in the milestone 70th Season of Delco Hi-Q are currently underway. With the regular season in the log books, the seven teams that earned the most points cumulatively advance, and will compete for the Donna Zerby trophy.

With 170 points, Garnet Valley High School earned the most points this season and the advantage of skipping the semi-finals and advancing straight to the championship round. They will also host the championship match-up on Wednesday, March 7. Radnor High School finished their season just one point behind GVHS and will host the first semi-final competition with Haverford and Strath Haven, which completed their season with total points of 140 and 133 respectively. Delaware County Christian School finished their season with 157 points, the third highest among the 21 participating schools, and will host the second round of semi-finals with Marple Newtown and Penncrest High Schools.

Rankings in the semifinals serve only to place teams in their respective competitions. All teams are to be commended for their persistent hard work, as are their schools for the support they provide.

The winners of semi-finals will advance to the championship round at Garnet Valley. The team that takes the crown will then move onto the national Hi-Q Championship, where they’ll play three other regional Hi-Q champs via videoconference.

Prizes will be awarded and all Delco Hi-Q teams will be recognized at the annual Partners in Education Celebration being held April 19 at Drexelbrook Corporate Events Center. More than 600 students, parents, teachers, businesspeople, and local dignitaries will attend the region’s premier academic awards ceremony. Delco Hi-Q students and their faculty advisors attend the Celebration at no cost. Supporters of Hi-Q and other programs recognized at the region’s premier academic achievement event can purchase tickets. Sponsors are also welcome! Information can be found at PartnersInEducationFoundation.org.

Delco Hi-Q is a partnership between Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) and FMFCU Partners in Education. FMFCU Vice President Rick Durante serves as Executive Director and Quizmaster, FMFCU Foundation Development & Events Specialist Danielle Griffin is Hi-Q Coordinator, and DCIU’s Dave Bramble is the production engineer. In addition to support from participating schools, Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union and the Wilbur C. and Betty Lea Henderson Foundation are the primary corporate sponsors.
