Cabrini women cruise to conference title game

Nomi Washington scored 23 points and Meg Matthews added 17 as Cabrini won its CSAC semifinal playoff game, 76-66, over Marywood Wednesday night.

The Cavaliers, streaking along at 23-2 and 16-0 in the conference, advance to the conference championsh­ip game Saturday against Neumann, which knocked off second-seeded Gwynedd Mercy, 7364.

For Marywood, Erika Bistran scored 21 points and Natasha Hessling added 12 points and 13 rebounds. NEUMANN 73, GWYNEDD MERCY 64 » Nafisa Saunders scored 27 points and Shauntel Williams added 15 to send the thirdseede­d Knights to the league final Saturday. Kristen Denoncour chipped in with nine points and 10 rebounds.

In other women’s basketball action: CHEYNEY 65, LOCK HAVEN 61 » TaKayla Ellis scored a game-high 22 points and Octavia Hawkins chipped in 13 as Cheyney posted its sixth victory of the season.

With the win Cheyney (6-21, 4-17 in the PSAC East) reversed a 16-7 deficit after one quarter. Ja’la Walker pulled down 11 rebounds for the Lady Wolves. For Lock Haven (5-20, 4-17), Kayla Henderson had 16 points and Ahnera Parker had 15. CINCINNATI 70, TEMPLE 52 » The Owls found themselves down 21-10 after one quarter and the game got out of hand from there. Ana Owens and Shanice Johnson scored 24 points each for the Bearcats. For Temple (10-17, 2-12 ACC), Emani Mayo scored 13 points and Desiree Oliver had 12.

Men’s Basketball

A 58-point outburst in the second half is what Neumann needed to have the opportunit­y to defend the CSAC title it won a year ago.

That surge powered the third-seeded Knights to a 102-85 upset of secondseed­ed Gwynedd Mercy.

Aaron Johnson-Chaves and Tyaire Hudson paced Neumann with 25 points apiece. Jordan Collins added 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Raquan BrownJohns­on pitched in with 15 points.

The Knights (20-7) visit top-seeded Cabrini Saturday for the title. CABRINI 91, ROSEMONT 72 » Tyheim Monroe collected 22 points and seven rebounds, and Deryl Begwell added 19 and seven to send the Cavaliers to Saturday’s final. The victory also extended winning streak to nine.

Anthony Wright-Downing chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds for Cabrini (23-3). LOCK HAVEN 87, CHEYNEY 84 » A layup by Amir Hinton with 23 seconds left in overtime sealed the victory for the Bald Eagles (8-17, 6-15 PSAC East). Hinton led Lock Haven with 28 points.

Jeff Lewis poured in 28 points and Cliff St. Juste added 12 for Cheyney (223, 2-19).
