RIDLEY PARK » Council honored three police officers at a recent meeting for their quick action in freeing a man who became trapped under a car as he was changing a tire.

Police Chief Robert Frazier presented officers Steve Corsi, Tom Byrne Jr., and Josh Powley to the audience at the council meeting.

“These guys did a phenomenal job. They are young, aggressive and passionate,” Frazier said.

According to the citation each officer received, Prowley was dispatched to the 200 block of Stull Road on the evening of Jan. 30 on a report of a man trapped under a car when the jack which he was using to lift the car so he could change a tire slipped, pinning the man’s hand between the tire and fender. Byrne and Corsi also responded to the call and the three men were able to life the front of the vehicle enough for the man to pull his hand out.

“Swift actions and response time led to saving this man’s life and prevented severe (bodily) injury,” the citation read.

Mayor Hank Eberle and council President Jim Glenn presented the citations to the officers, along with Wawa gift cards as a token of appreciation.

Also honored at the meeting was Engineer Charles Catania, who was honored by the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, Delaware County Chapter, as its Engineer of the Year for 2018.

During the business portion of the meeting, Glenn reminded residents that it is illegal to connect sump pumps to the sanitarily sewer system.

“And please remember, don’t flush things down the toilet that don’t belong there. We have an aging sewer system,” Glenn said, adding that sewer back ups in the system are expensive to the borough.

In another matter, council announced that there are three openings on the Historic Architectural Review Board and one vacancy on the zoning board. Residents interested in serving on these boards should contact the borough office.

Action was taken by council to award the 2017 federal Community Development Block Grant street resurfacing bid to Joseph R. Sucher & Sons., the lowest responsible bidder, for $141,910. Council also approved the repair to the roadway between 302 and 307 E. Hinckley Ave. in the amount of $6,250.

Finally, council approve the signage that will complete the Ridley Park Lake Walking Trail. The onemile long trail circles the lake all the way past the ballfield.
