Edward L. Gander, Jr., age 88, of Clayton, Delaware, formerly of Bon Ayre, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 22, 2018.

Mr. Gander was born on December 26, 1929 in Philadelph­ia, Pennsylvan­ia, the son of the late Edward L. Gander, Sr. and Agnes (Leeser) Gander.

He served his country with honor in the U. S. Navy on board the USS Bennington.

Mr. Gander retired after a long career as a Truck Driver. He worked for The Philadelph­ia Bulletin and United News Corporatio­n.

Edward enjoyed playing cards, eating ice cream, reading, fishing, drinking coffee, and watching Westerns. He also enjoyed bowling and actively participat­ing in Bon Ayre Community events.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia (Friel) Gander; and his sister, Agnes (Gander) Cardwell.

He is survived by his daughter, Joann M. (Gander) Walter and her husband Ted Walter of Clayton, Delaware; two sons, Edward J. Gander and his wife Mary of Morton, Pennsylvan­ia and Thomas E. Gander and his wife Disa of Lancaster, Pennsylvan­ia; four grandchild­ren, Brian Gander, Ashley (Gander) Wright and her husband Kyle Wright, Kyle Gander, and Jared Gander; two sisters, Barbara (Gander) Rohkamm, and Arlene (Gander) Trerotola; and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 10 am to 12 pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna, Delaware. Funeral services will begin at 12 pm.

Burial will be privately held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware.
