Smith scores twice, Plummer pitches shutout as Springfiel­d advances

Lachlan Plummer and Aidan Smith made sure Springfiel­d got off to a good start in the ICSHL Central playoffs.

Plummer pitched a shutout and Smith had two goals as the Cougars blanked Radnor in the quarterfin­als Monday night, 4-0.

The win sends Springfiel­d into Wednesday’s semifinals against Haverford, a 4-1 winner over Ridley.

Plummer stopped 17 shots, including a penalty shot in the third quarter. Smith scored both of his goals in the second period to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead. Steven Griffin added one goal and one assist, while Nick Medwid chipped in with two assists. HAVERFORD 4, RIDLEY 1 » Henry DeVoe scored twice, once in the first period and again in the second period, to send the Fords into the semifinals. Alex Gattone contribute­d one goal and one assist and Dante Gattone added two assists. Goalie Tyler Cassidy stopped 24 shots for the win.

Michael Giampapa scored the lone goal for the Green Raiders. STRATH HAVEN 5, LOWER MERION 0 » Lucas Bernaus turned back 19 shots to record the shutout as the Panthers used a strong defensive performanc­e to advance to the semifinals against Conestoga.

Blayden Reid and Liam Carney led the offense with one goal and two assists each. Mike Irey contribute­d one goal and one assist. Bensel Morgan had the other goal for Strath Haven. CONESTOGA 9, PENNCREST 1» The Pioneers scored seven goals after the Lions cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second period to advance to Wednesday’s semifinal round against the Panthers.

Frank Konopasek led the way with four goals and one assist. Michael Cameron added three goals and two assists. Matt Dougherty converted a pass from Shane Kokoska to get Penncrest on the board early in the second period.

In the South semifinals: DMA 9, BONNER 1 » Max Ruggerio tallied twice in the second period and twice in the third period to help DMA erase a 1-0 deficit.

Geoffrey Stokes scored with 53 seconds left in the first period for Bonner to break a scoreless tie, but DMA responded with nine unanswered goals to advance to Wednesday’s championsh­ip game against St. Mark’s, which defeated Interboro. ST. MARK’S 9, INTERBORO 5 » Patrick Swain and Joey Centrone scored in a twominute span in the second period to give St. Mark’s a 7-4 lead that was too much for the Bucs to overcome. Swain finished with three goals and one assist.

Stephen Schwartz led Interboro with two goals and two assists. Jake Reifer added one goal and two assists.
