Friends mourn man found shot to death on Chester street

CHESTER » A man was gunned on a city street Sunday night, becoming Chester’s fourth homicide of the year.

Jeffrey Smith, 53, was found lying on the ground on the 1100 block of Remington Street in Sun Village just after 6 p.m., according to police. He had been shot several times. Paramedics from Crozer-Chester Medical Center pronounced him dead at the scene.

Authoritie­s initially were called to the 1100 block of Remington Street for a report of shots fired in the area, according to Chester Police Capt. James Chubb.

While en route to that location, the call was upgraded to a subject shot. Police arriving on the scene discovered the victim lying on the ground in the 1100 block of Remington Street

The shooting remains under investigat­ion.

Friends and relatives of Smith turned to the victim’s Facebook page to express their sorrow, and offer condolence­s.

“Why” read one post, which also included two crying emojis. “I am so sorry that you are gone and especially that your baby will no longer have you here with her taking her to school and just showing her all the love you gave her,” read another post. The same post added, in part, “You were an amazing man that always helped others ...”

Another post read in part, “Rest easy honey you will be missed terribly you did a lot for this area.”
