Lucille Bennett
Lucille Bennett, 86, also known as “Lu”, “Lucy” and “Grams” of Clifton Heights, PA passed with peace and grace on Sunday March 4th, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her husband John; siblings Al, Jasper and Terry and granddaughter, Jaclyn.
Lucille was born and raised in the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia, where she met the love of her life, John. They shared 58 years in their Westbrook Park home, raised their sons and spoiled their grandchildren.
Lucille loved being social and was an active member in her community. She was a cherished member of Holy Cross Parish, The Red Hat Society, Curves as well as a longtime volunteer at the “polls”. Lucille pursued many hobbies such as bowling, traveling and painting ceramics.
Lucille was an avid cook and took pride in preparing authentic Italian recipes passed down for generations. Her food was her way of connecting to others. As soon as you entered her home, she would ask if you were hungry, regardless of your response, you would be greeted with a spread of food. She had a strong desire to give, was compassionate and wanted the people in her life to know that she cared. On any holiday you would find her baking or creating small gifts for every person who was not only a part of her life, but her children and grandchildren’s lives.
Family and friends were Lucille’s true passion and joy. Lucille “lived a good life” and it is because of the rich family and friendships that she developed over the years, these were the things that she cherished most.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Barb) and John (Johannah); granddaughters Johannah (Chavis), Nicole, Ashley (Mike), Danielle and great-granddaughter, Alaia.
There will be a Viewing on Friday at 9:00am, O’Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Rd., Springfield, PA19064 followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30am in Holy Cross Church.
Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
