HERE WE GO

I have a relative who lives in Seattle, and he said, “Boy, are we glad to get rid of Michael Bennett.” Oh, no – what are we getting?

PACK IT IN

Just wondering why your distributors are allowed now to sell six packs? If they’re allowed to sell six packs, why aren’t taverns allowed to sell cases? It’s just not right.

THANKS, GEORGE

Georges Perrier underwent triple-bypass heart surgery in Philadelphia after he collapsed on the street and was brought back by a passing-by doctor using CPR. Philadelphia had no world class, four-star restaurants until Le Bec-Fin and Georges Perrier came to town. And you did not have to be particularly wealthy to enjoy them.

OUT ON A LIMB

Will people ever learn to keep trees away from power lines? If you had trees along the road, cut them down. If they’re around your power lines, cut them down. You asked for trouble when you know a storm’s coming and your trees are near the power lines. Yes, they look beautiful – cut them down. You don’t need that many trees along the road and near power lines.

TOM THE LOSER

I see they’re saying Tom Brady, also known as the losing quarterback of the Super Bowl, is shaving his head for charity. Who cares? Who cares what Tom Brady is doing anymore? Here’s a guy that showed his true class after the Super Bowl by boohooing and walking out of the stadium and not even shaking Nick Foles’ hand. Yeah, he’s a real class act. He’s the kind of the guy I’d like my kid to look up to. Maybe he could show some class and quickly donate some millions and lie low for a while.

FILL ‘ER UP

Somebody has to fix all those potholes on Academy Avenue just as you come up to Gardner Avenue. They are going to cause an accident when people are trying to avoid hitting them. There is a lot of traffic on that road since MacDade Boulevard has been closed. Whoever is responsible, please act now. We don’t need any serious injuries.

TELL IT TO TILLERSON

A lot of egg on a lot of Democrat faces – Trump agrees to meet with Kim Jong-Un in North Korea. They said it couldn’t be done, that he was just starting a war with his war of words. Well, guess what? It is happening. They don’t know diplomacy.

NAME NAMES

I’m just wondering: Is there any way shape or form that anybody from the progressive, liberals, Democrats, etc. can describe somebody from the opposite side of the aisle without the childish name calling? I have yet to read a comment from a liberal in the paper without some kind of childish name calling or derogatory comment behind it. There’s no reason for it – and then you wonder why there’s such a rift in politics.

THERE GO THE JOBS

To “Pay Up,” the real issue with steel and aluminum tariffs isn’t a potential three-cent increase in cans of soup at the retail level. We’ve been making the same amount of steel in the U.S. for the last 35 years and the vast majority of steel consumed here is made in the U.S. We have 25 percent of the steel workforce as before because of technological advances. Tariffs aren’t going to change that. What they will do is drive up costs for other businesses that use steel and have long-term negative consequences for all industries involved. The last time we tried this 15 years ago under President Bush, all that it did was cost us around 200,000 jobs.

THE CHIP FALLS

I appreciate Howie Roseman’s resilience in bouncing back and making the right personnel decisions to win a Super Bowl after all the drama surrounding Chip Kelly’s season in full control. That being said, I hope all the praise hasn’t gone to his head.
