For the 29th year, the Young Poets Competition is accepting entries from Delaware County students in grades 1-12. Deadline for entries is Friday, March 24, 2018. Students may submit one poem to any public library in Delaware County. Poems are judged by grade level. Original poems must be typed or written neatly on an 8 ½-by-11 size sheet of paper (no odd size or construction paper, please).

The following information should appear on each poem: The student’s name, grade, school, home address, email address and phone number (winners are notified by phone and mail). Entries without all information are disqualified and entries are not returned.

Prizes include cash, and all first, second and third prize winners are published in a booklet featuring the winning poems.

The Young Poets Competition culminates in a special winners’ award event at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 6, featuring the 36 winners of the poetry competition who read their winning poems at the Redwood Community Playhouse on Sixth Street in Upland.

The contest is sponsored by several organizations including the Mad Poets Society, Delaware County Library System, Rose Tree Optimists Club, Pennsylvania Poetry Society, Delaware County Reading Council and the PA Council on the Arts.

For interested athletes, Special Olympics is open to all athletes age 8 and older in addition to a Young Athletes Program for children 3 and older.
