Zetas guide high school students ‘from girls to pearls’
SPRINGFIELD » The women of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Rho Chi Zeta Chapter, hosted their 18th annual Finer Womanhood Blue Revue luncheon, “From Girls to Pearls,” on Saturday, March 17, at the Springfield Country Club. The event was the culmination of the chapter’s UPLIFT (Utilizing Potential
and Life Interests for Teens) Mentoring Program. The theme for the 2018 program was “UPLIFT Girls Rock!”
Rho Chi Zeta Chapter established the UPLIFT Mentoring Program in 2000 to help inform, educate and prepare female high school students as they journey through their teen years. Through interactive workshops, the participants receive educational and career guidance, improve leadership and communication skills, learn the importance of social graces, and become more academically, culturally, and socially aware.
2018 UPLIFT participants included:
• Sadé Davis, Chester Charter School of the Arts
• Tayane Harris, Cheltenham High School
• Camryn Jones, Cheltenham High School
• Sanaa Nixon, Archbishop John Carroll High School
• Ava President, Cheltenham High School
• Skye Thomas, Chester High School
Family, friends and community members were in attendance at the Finer Womanhood Blue Revue to see the participants showcase the skills and talents they have developed as a result of the UPLIFT program. This included a Grand Finale with the participants performing a choreographed dance number with their positive male role model and receiving with a strand of pearls presented by members of the sorority and their mother. The pearls symbolize wealth, power, feminine charm and their transformation “From Girls to Pearls.” Proceeds from the Blue Revue go towards providing scholarships to deserving young women.
