Garnet Valley gets double dose of Royals’ Sorrentino

Rebecca Sorrentino made quite an impact from the circle and at the plate Tuesday in Upper Darby’s season opener.

Sorrentino struck out 13 and hammered a home run to lead the Royals to an 8-5 Central League victory over Garnet Valley. UD erased a 5-0 deficit with a six-run sixth inning. Sarah Sullivan hit an RBI triple and Rylee Shanahan added two singles.

Morgan Masaros had a big day at the dish for the Jaguars, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and home run. Diana Torregross­a and Annie Bechtold each legged out a triple. CONESTOGA 9, RIDLEY 5 » Ashley Shanks went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a walk for the Green Raiders (0-1). Freshman Madison Chapman added a triple and two singles in the losing cause.

In nonleague action: RADNOR 25, CHICHESTER 6 » What a day it was for Radnor pitcher Libby Tewksbury. The senior earned her first varsity win and was a home run shy of the cycle with three RBIs and three runs scored.

In her first varsity game, Amanda McGrath was 4-for-5 with two triples, three RBIs and two runs scored for the Raiders (1-0). Audrey Rosenblum went 4-for-5 with two three-baggers, four runs and two RBIs. Grace Remphrey singled twice and doubled, scored five runs and knocked in a pair. Freshman Jordan Dell notched three base knocks and scored three runs.

Ava Franz led the Eagles (0-1) with two hits, including an RBI double, and two runs scored.

Boys Lacrosse

Jack Daly scored six goals and handed out three assists to help Haverford roll to a 16-6 nonleague win over Council Rock North.

Cole Lukasiewic­z chipped in with two goals and three assists for the Fords, who led 5-0 after the first quarter. Kyle Bennett and Jaiden Davis also netted two goals each, while Matt Young won 13 faceoffs. Haverford goalie Shane Liney finished with eight saves. PENNCREST 14, ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 6 » TJ Sims had a five-point night with two goals and three assists to lead the Lions (2-0). Max Daugherty recorded four goals and Trey Pompetti (two assists), Joe Nichols and Anthony Chero all chipped in with a pair of tallies.

Girls Lacrosse

Riley Street showed the way with five goals and Shayna Flory scored four as Academy Park cruised to a 16-6 nonleague decision over Barrack Hebrew Academy.

Nyla Merritt and Hannah Reif both added a hat trick for the Knights (1-1), and goalie TaeJa Chambers-Jackson made 12 saves.

Boys Tennis

Ben Lehrberger and Ryan Consigan were victorious in singles play as Sun Valley earned its second consecutiv­e win with a 5-2 decision over Glen Mills.

Grady Southern and Jake Baron won at first doubles (61, 6-1) and Hunter Hoffman and Sean Setnick triumphed in the No. 2 spot (6-2, 6-1) for the Vanguards. The No. 4 tandem of Joe Shapiro and Josh Gindle claimed a 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 win.

Destin Dortch recorded a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles for the Bulls.

Boys Track

Nate Randall and Tayvan Williams each won three events as Penn Wood picked up a 78-72 victory over Chester in a Del Val League meet.

Randall won the mile and two-mile races, then claimed first place in the high jump. Williams was successful in three field events, winning the triple jump, long jump and javelin.

Malachi Langley put forth a quadruple-winning performanc­e for the Clippers. Langley helped the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays to victory, and bested the competitio­n in the 400- and 200-meter races.

Girls Track

Jillian Barrett and Kelly Connor made a good first impression in Interboro’s first dual meet of the season as the Bucs defeated Academy Park, 81-46.

Barrett won the 300 hurdles and 3,200, and anchored the Bucs’ winning 4 x 800. Connor was victorious on the dirt, taking first place in shot put, discus and javelin.

Tracy Enders earned wins in the long jump and triple jump for Interboro.
