Guitar shredder stops in Lansdowne

Instrumental rock guitarist Rob Balducci takes the stage at Jamey’s House of Music, 32 S. Landsdowne Ave., on Saturday, April 7, at 8 p.m. Balducci is touring in support of his newest CD “821 Monroe Drive.” Tickets are on sale now and available at www. jameyshouseofmusic.com

“The inspiration for the songs on this CD are related to the house where I grew up (821 Monroe Drive) in one way or another,” said Balducci. “At the age when I started learning all my musical influences came from the music I was listening to growing up. This CD represents things in my life from when I was born until the present.”

Having played guitar for the past 27 years, the Long Island native furthered his six-string education, earning a degree in Music Performance and Theory from Five Towns College and releasing his debut CD, 1995’s “Balance,” which earned praise from the music press and guitar enthusiasts alike.

After his debut, Balducci continued working on new material and shopping his music to various record companies before signing to Steve Vai’s record label Favored Nations Entertainment and releasing “Mantra,” “The Color Of Light” and “Violet Horizon” CDs worldwide.

“There are two things that make an effective musician, one is the technical ability to perform on the instrument and the second is an emotional investment in what you are playing,” said Vai, who has performed with Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth and Whitesnake along with leading an acclaimed solo career. “Rob has a really good equilibrium for the technical side of things and the emotional investment.”

Rain barrell workshops this spring

The Pennsylvania Resources Council and the Eastern Delaware County Stormwater Collaborative holds free “Backyard Buffers & Rain Barrel Making” workshops this spring to inform residents on water conservation and storm water management practices to help protect local waterways.

The workshops are on April 24 at Collingdale Borough Hall, May 17 at Morton Borough Hall, and and June 20 at East Lansdowne Borough Hall at 6:30 nightly. The workshops are free; registration is required.

The presentations focus on using rain barrels to manage stormwater on your property. A rain barrel is a system that connects to your downspout to collect and store rain water from your roof. Rain barrels help to reduce water pollution and flooding while saving money and providing free water for use in yards and gardens. Workshop attendees learn the basics of how to construct, install and maintain a rain barrel. After the workshop, participants are provided with a recycled barrel and fittings to install a rain barrel on their property.

A free recycled rain barrel is provided to the first 50 registered participants at each workshop (limit one rain barrel per household). The workshops are being funded through a Growing Greener grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

For information and registration, visit or call Diana Andrejczak at 610-3531555, ext. 232. Online registration is preferred.

See new take on ‘Little Mermaid’

MEDIA » There’s a new musical version of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid” at The Media Theatre every weekend through May 20.

Developed for children ages 4 and up, the 50 minute show features new songs, colorful costumes, and an opportunity for children in the audience to join the show on stage.

In this adaptation, Doria is the youngest mermaid who wishes to live on land. She wants to be more like the humans above. Her father, the humorous Sea King, understands she is unable to fulfill her dream but wants her to figure things out on her own.

She finally gets her chance to go to The Rock above land and see what life is like above the water where she rescues a group of sailors and one charming prince.

Songs include “The World Above,” “Mermaid’s Song,” “Beauty of The Sea” and more. The musical’s message is all about accepting who you are and is a reminder to appreciate the creatures of the ocean.
