Papale visits press club

TINICUM » Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver, author and motivational speaker Vince Papale shares his against-all-odds story and his inspiring new book “The Last Laugh: Vision to Victory” at the Delaware County Press Club’s April 18 luncheon at Lazaretto Ballroom, 99 Wanamaker Ave., Essington.

In 1976, Papale, a 30-yearold Interboro teacher, high school coach, part-time bartender and die-hard Eagles fan, achieved his lifelong dream of playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was voted Special Teams Captain by his teammates and earned Eagles “Man of the Year” in 1978 for his numerous charitable activities. His story was the basis for Walt Disney Pictures stirring football drama, “Invincible,” starring Mark Wahlberg.

The ultimate underdog continues to be an inspiration off the field. Papale and his former teammate, Dennis Franks, have written a book together called “The Last Laugh: Vision to Victory.” The book is part memoir and part success guide. The former NFL players turned entrepreneurs share lessons learned and obstacles conquered during their years in the NFL. They show how they applied those lessons to their respective business careers after they hung up their helmets.

Papale continues to hold the record for being the oldest rookie in the National Football League (kickers excluded). He was recently honored by the Eagles and their fans and was named “Most Outstanding Special Teams Player” during a celebration of the Philadelphia Eagles 75th anniversary. He is married to former U.S. World Team Gymnast Janet Cantwell, and they reside in Cherry Hill, N.J. with their two children, Gabriella and Vincent.

Networking begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch at noon. The public is welcome to all Press Club lunches. Cost for April’s lunch is $20 for Press Club members, $25 for non-members, walk-ins and guests. Advanced tickets are recommended and can be purchased online at thepressclub.org. Payments can

also be made by cash or check at the door. Copies of “The Last Laugh: Vision to Victory” are available for sale at the event.
