New charge filed in Bonner-Prendie threat investigation
A new criminal charge has been added against alleged Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School threat maker An-Tso “Edward” Sun.
In addition to an initial charge filed on March 26 of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, Sun is now charged with possession of an instrument of crime with intent to employ criminally, both class one misdemeanors. The charges are the result of an alleged plot for Sun, 18, originally from Taiwan, to shoot up the high school on May 1 which was revealed to a friend who then told the school of Sun’s plans. Sun is a foreign exchange student attending BonnerPrendie who was staying with a host parent in Upper Darby who has yet to be identified or charged with any crimes.
District Attorney Katayoun Copeland’s office could not confirm for what weapon recovered by police the instrument of crime charge is being applied to, whether a handmade 9mm handgun, a crossbow, 1,600 bullets, or a ballistic vest. Spokeswoman Emily Harris said the complaint was amended by a letter motion to Magisterial District Judge Ann Berardocco to include the charge.
A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for April 25 before Berardocco, a delay of two weeks from when it was originally scheduled. Harris said the continuance was not on the commonwealth’s behalf.
Havertown-based attorney Robert Keller, one of two counselors for Sun, could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon about the continuance issued for the first preliminary hearing or the new charge that was filed.
Sun has been held at Delaware County’s prison for failing to post bail.
