HAVERFORD » Firefighters responded to a serious house on fire the 2700 block of County Line Road in the Ardmore section Wednesday. The alarm was sounded shortly after 10:15 a.m., alerting Oakmont and Brookline firefighters.

Police and Narberth paramedics arrived to report everyone was safely out of the fire site and an adjoining home.

Fire officers quickly requested a second alarm bringing Ardmore, Manoa, Llanerch and Bon Air as flames roared from the second and third floor windows of the detached home.

Neighbors poured onto the street to watch as thick black smoke rose into the blue sky.

“It was unbelievable,” said Rick Milano, owner of Milano’s auto repair just down the street. “I just went by and 15 minutes ago and there was nothing. It spread so quickly.”

Firefighters advanced a hose through the front door to attack the flames from the inside as a second crew trained a hose on the building’s side as it burned. They had to deal with downed wires as they fought the blaze which consumed the front rooms of the upper stories if the home.

Firefighters had the blaze under control in 40 minutes.

Township Manager Larry Gentile said one firefighter was treated on the scene for a cut to his hand but did not need to go to the hospital.

Haverford police said the cause appears to be accidental; however, it is still under investigation.
