JERRY ROCKS

My grandson Jerry Bair smelled gas in front of his house on Glenwood Avenue in Clifton Heights and called PECO. When they came out and then they found a gas leak not only at his house, but another house up the street. For being so alert, he is my hero. JUDY, HIS GRANDMOM

WORKIN’ IT

“If, If, If …” makes a good point, and the fact that Staten Island went for Trump really underscores that this other caller’s argument that Hillary’s popular vote win meant she had more working class support really makes no sense. What’s the last bastion of old school working class New Yorkers? Staten Island. The other boroughs are now all dominated by the dichotomy of wealthy people and relocated yuppies on one hand, and people living in urban poverty on the other. I guess those voters kind of sum up the history of the Democratic Party for the last 180 years — wealthy people paying lip service to the working class and the poor in order to get their votes and maintain power.

WHAT A YUK

I used to read the comic strips in the Daily Times; now I just read Sound Off. Where you find these guys, these comedy writers? One guy says that Trump won all the red states because they’re the rich states. Is he kidding me? Out of the top 10 richest states, eight of them are Democratic – including Maryland, which has the most millionaires in the country. What book is this guy reading out of, Dr. Seuss? MR. TOM IN LINWOOD

TALK ABOUT CRUDE

I saw a caller thanking President Trump for the higher fuel prices and mentioning that crude prices are low. While I know no nobody cares about the facts, but last week a barrel of crude went above $65 the first time in a long time. When you sell something and you have to replace it at a higher cost, you charge more. Also this time the time of the year the refineries are starting to go in their annual shutdowns for maintenance; therefore there would be less refineries online to make gasoline and other petroleum products. But please, don’t let the facts get in your way. Just continue on your happy way. Maybe it should it should be 17 cents a gallon and maybe you still get inside the cellophane of 22-cent pack of cigarettes from the vending machine – oh wait, that was 1960.

SILENT CHERYL

To “Whaa Hillary,” I have to respect Cheryl Mills on one point. Michael Cohen was running his mouth before he was Trump’s Tom Hagen. Cheryl Mills just quietly acted like a character out of “The Godfather” at the highest levels of government, never bragging that she acted as Hillary’s personal fixer, sitting in on law enforcement interviews while being under investigation herself in the same case. She didn’t need to brag about it, she just did it. CYNICAL VOTER

BLUE ABOUT ‘BLUE’

“Blue Power” has to be out of their mind, talking about how all those Democratic states they named are made up of working people. Yes, there are working people in there, but there is also the entertainment and financial capitals of the country and by extension the world, and all those states made up the wealthiest in the nation.

SHOW SOME RESPECT

Before I kind of felt bad for Jim Comey, that he was a bureaucrat caught in multiple lose-lose situations. But I’ve lost a lot of respect for him after his media tour promoting his book. Either come right out and say you’re shamelessly promoting it, or give straight, honest answers and let the book sell itself. Don’t tell George Stephanopoulos that you’re trying to set an example of leadership for kids by writing it, then throw out a bunch of sound bites devoid of substance in response to softball questions

GIVE THEM TIME

“Sore Loser” sounds like a sore loser to me. And the fact that they haven’t turned up any so-called collusion yet doesn’t mean that they won’t. They’re not done with the investigation yet. All you idiot right-wingers keep saying because we haven’t found collusion yet that we’re not going to find any. But we will find collusion; all we have do is keep investigating. NEVER EVER EVER GIVE UP
