Torres’ timely hit leads Chester to win in extras

Nester Torres and Kevin right time for Chester.

Oliva brought home the equalizing run, then Torres drove in the game-winner to give the Clippers an 11-10 Del Val League baseball victory over Penn Wood in eight innings.

Torres ripped a one-out single to left field with bases loaded to chase home Gabe Marrero with winning run.

Oliva drew a bases-loaded walk with one out in the seventh inning to tie the game. Chris Gonzalez came out of the bullpen and fanned 12 in four innings to get the win.

Elsewhere in the Del Val League: CHICHESTER 9, ACADEMY PARK 0 » Hunter Killnen struck out six and did not allow a hit in four innings to get the win. Andrew Rodriguez (two hits, two runs scored) and Marcus Williams (two hits, two RBIs) paced a nine-hit attack for the Eagles. INTERBORO 15, GLEN MILLS 0 » Mike Ventura was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Colin Shields struck out seven in four innings to get the win for the Bucs. Anthony Vargas had two hits for the Bulls. In the Central League: HAVERFORD 6, RADNOR 4 » Shaun Jones and Pat Lindner came up with the big hits in a five-run, fifth-inning outburst that powered the Fords to the comefrom-behind victory.

Jones ripped a two-run single to tie it, and Lindner’s RBI hit gave the Fords (4-8, 3-7 Central) the lead for good. Adam Stuck also had two hits and one RBI.

Dan Kelleher was spectacula­r out of the He allowed two hits, one walk and fanned 3.2 innings to get the win.

Sean Mullarkey went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to pace the Raders.

George Hoysgaard also drove Karnavas added two hits.

In the Inter-Ac League: HAVERFORD SCHOOL 2, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 1 » Zak Summy and Calvin Costner combined on a three-hitter. Summy allowed three hits and one earned run in six innings to get the win. Costner shut the door in the seventh inning to earn the save.

Joe Bonini’s two-out, two-run single in the top of the third inning provided all the runs the Fords needed.

Bridget Bailey was a one-woman wrecking crew for Interboro Tuesday.

Bailey tossed a no-hitter and drove in two runs as the Bucs blanked Penn Wood, 12-0, in the Del Val League.

Bailey struck out 13 in five innings and was 2-for-3 at the plate. Kate Patton added two hits, two runs and one RBI. Haley Wittorf pitched in with two hits and one RBI.

Also in the Del Val League action: CHICHESTER 11, ACADEMY PARK 5 » Ava Franz ripped a two-run triple to highlight a six-run uprising by the Eagles in the third inning. Maddie Knapp added three hits including a double and three RBIs.

In the Central League: GARNET VALLEY 13, STRATH HAVEN 3 » Audrey Shenk, Lindsey Hunt, Annie Bechtold and Reece Gabriele went a combined 4-for-10 with 10 RBIs and seven runs scored. SHENK AND BECHTOLD KNOCKED IN THREE RUNS EACH FOR THE JAGS, WHO BROKE THE GAME OPEN WITH NINE RUNS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FIRST INNING. RIDLEY 16, HARRITON 1 » Ashley Shanks slugged a grand slam and drove in five runs. Abby McCoy added a triple, home run and three RBIs. Morgan Chapman (triple) and Gab DiNardo (double) also had extra base hits for the Green Raiders.

In the Inter-Ac League: BALDWIN 7, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 6 » Alaina Donnelly slugged two homers and drove in four runs to pace the Bears.

Grace Smith and Eliza Aldridge both went 2-for-3 with a triple and one RBI for the Churchwome­n.

In the Bicentenni­al League: CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 17, LOWER MORELAND 7 » Grace Gormley stole home in the sixth inning to put the Crusaders up for good. TCA (6-1) added nine runs in the seventh inning to break the game open.

Gormley had five of TCA’s 18 stolen bases and also had two hits. Lindsay Haseltine and Gen Kozub paced the offense with three hits each.

In the Catholic League: ST. HUBERT 3, BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 1 » Allison Martin tripled home Kayla McLaughlin in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Pandas, but it wasn’t enough as the Bambies tallied twice in the top of the 10th inning to take this rematch of last season’s Catholic League final.

Meghan Sullivan went the distance for MBAP and allowed just one hit, one walk and struck out seven.

In nonleague action: W.C. EAST 16, HAVERFORD 2 » Morgan Marchesani collected two RBIs, and Anna Medford was 2-for-2 for the Fords.

Boys Track

Anthony Billops used his versatilit­y to lead Chichester to its first win over Glen Mills since 2004 with an 82-59 Del Val League triumph over the Bulls.

Billops won the 300 hurdles, the 800 and triple jump and ran the second leg of the winning 4 x 400-meter relay. DaQuan Granberry (400, high jump) and Dominic Brown (200, 4 x 400) also were double winners for the Eagles (3-2).

Justin Smith took Glen Mills.

In the Central League: HAVERFORD A DOUBLE WINNER » The Fords used their depth to top Radnor (111-39) and Lower Merion (78.571.5). The Aces beat the Raiders, 108-42.

Canaan Curry (300 hurdles), Mike Donnelly (3,200), Michael Moffett (triple jump), Chason Wint (shot put) and Spencer Hurst (pole vault) were the individual the shot put and discus to lead winners for Haverford. 800 and 4 x 400 relays.

Devon Tate captured the 100, discus and javelin for Lower Merion. Ethan Zeh captured the 800 and 1,600 to lead Radnor. GARNET VALLEY WINS TWICE » Juniors Dylan Hooper and Larry Coaxum won two events each as the Jaguars topped Marple Newtown (115-35) and Conestoga (127-22). The Tigers defeated the Pioneers, 11336.

Hooper won both hurdles events, and Coaxum took first in the long and triple jumps. Nick Delisle won the javelin and pole vault to pace Marple Newtown.

Girls Golf

Kaitlyn Lees carded a 4-over par 38 at Philadelph­ia Country Club to pace Agnes Irwin to a 218-230 InterAc League victory over Notre Dame. Meghan Fahey finished one stroke behind Lees.

After only claiming one match in singles play, Cardinal O’Hara closed out doubles play with a straightse­ts wins led by Eric Lee and Ryan Henderson in the No. 2 match to clinch a 3-2 Catholic League triumph over Archbishop Carroll.

Lee and Henderson won 6-3, 6-2, while Owen Sheehan and Jack McCarry won the No. 1 match by the same margin for the Lions (6-5, 5-3), who will begin the league playoffs on Thursday against either Bonner & Prendergas­t or Lansdale Catholic.

Tommy Anderson controlled the No. 1 singles match, 6-2, 6-1, and Jimmy Dougherty won the third match handily for the Patriots.

In the Central League: HAVERFORD 7, SPRINGFIEL­D 0 » The Fords (3-6, 2-5) cruised to a strong victory behind Jamie Taglang’s straight-set win in the No. 1 singles match and capped off by Zachary Signorello and Matt Blickley’s straightse­t win in the No.4 doubles match.

In the Del Val League: SUN VALLEY 5, ACADEMY PARK 2 » After dropping the first two singles matches, the Vanguards rattled off four consecutiv­e wins highlighte­d by a 6-3, 6-1 victory by Grady Southern and Jake Baron in the No. 1 doubles spot.

Mel Schoolfiel­d put the Knights in a good position at the start, taking the No. 1 singles match over Ben Lehrberger, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5).

In the Inter-Ac League: HAVERFORD SCHOOL 6, PENN CHARTER 1 » Grayson Potter’s tiebreakin­g win in the first set at No. 3 singles helped the Fords sweep singles play. The tandem of Ryan Astley and Jeff Bozzi closed out the match with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 doubles. EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 7, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 0 » James Tang, Aantorik Ganguly and Justin Chen swept the singles in straight sets to pace the Churchmen. EA also won the doubles in straight sets.
