Human Recovery Association needed in fight vs. guns

magine. You are sitting in a classroom listening to your teacher and a man walks in the room and starts shooting the teacher and your classmates. You are in shock and you hide under your desk, only to hear bullets whistling pass your head. You start praying because you know death is right around the corner. This is what happened in Florida. This is what happened at the Virginia Tech. This is what happened at Columbine. This is what is happened in Las Vegas, and in schools across this country. America doesn’t have to worry about international terrorist. She is slowly killing herself. America is dying because she has created a culture of violence. And this culture of violence is allowing a death demon to take the lives of an entire generation. Who’s next?

The killing spree in Florida is just an example of how everyone in this country is at risk of being a victim of a random killing. Are there too many guns on the street? Advocates are trying to appeal to legislators to ban certain weapons and completely change the gun policy of the NRA. It won’t happen. The NRA is too powerful a group. Its membership is enormous, being able to swing votes for Republicans and Democrats. Guns are the fabric of American society. They are like the air we breathe. All we have to do is inhale and before we exhale we can have one. They will always be with us. Unfortunately, because of that, there will be more random killings, murders, and broken hearts. When loved ones are a victim of a shooting, hearts are broken.

In view of all the fear surrounding the misuse of guns, I would like to offer a different view of guns as a threat this culture of violence we live in. To understand this view, let’s suppose I have a gun in my closet. The only way that gun can come out of that closet is if I go in and take it out. The gun does not have legs. The gun does not have arms. It cannot move unless a human being moves it, or picks it up, So the gun is neutral. Furthermore, a gun doesn’t load itself, or pull back the trigger, aim, and shoot. A human does that. So, the issue is not gun control, but “human control.” Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.

It is very distressing to see mass murders of children, like the ones in Florida and Columbine. We live in a culture where people are walking our streets that are mentally sick, demented, hateful, angry, and full of racial hate. We have people who are fearful of other humans and buy guns to protect themselves. We have the right to bear arms. However, human nature is not as kind as we would like to think. Human nature is evil (with good deeds). If you don’t believe it, watch the evening news. We are a “naturally” revengeful, resentful, hateful, gossipy, people. Yes, we have good traits and display human compassion as represented in national organizations like United Way. But, for the most part, the dark side of human nature outweighs the good or compassionate part. That’s why we see so much killing and everyday violence in our cities. Even, so-called nice people can kill you. Both groups (those with a proclivity toward evil and good) can kill out of the dark side of their human nature. Guns are just metal. They don’t have human attributes. They don’t have hate. They never “personally” kill. They wait until a human being picks them up and points them in the direction of another human being and pulls the trigger.

We have the National Rifle Association (the NRA). The NRA supports our constitutional right to bear arms. But what we really need is a HRA. A HRA is an acronym for a much needed, “Human Recovery Association.” This organization doesn’t exist. But something like it needs to. Humans need to be get in a recovery program that helps them to recover emotions that relate to compassion, caring, and loving their neighbor as themselves. These feelings are deep in the heart of some Americans. They may be in their heart, but where are they in society? Yes, the HRA would help this country have real gun control. Why? Because guns don’t kill people. People kill people. Addressing issues that motivate and uncover psychological reasons people kill is related to gun control. The HRA (Human Recovery Association) would address the human motives that reveal reasons why people pick up a gun, point it at someone they don’t like, and pull the trigger. Killing begins in the mind and soul.

Yes, we live in a culture of violence. But we can defuse the violence by dealing honestly with America’s quick-on-the trigger mentality and unhealthy people who own guns. Gun control is really people control. The NRA is not the real issue. The real issue is people who use guns to express their dark side to kill and murder. We have more sociopaths on the streets than we think. Even if we took the guns out of the hands of people, if the inner issues are not addressed, they would find a way to kill someone with a toothpick.

A coming King, in a heavenly voice, once said; “Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God”. My vote is for the HRA and the coming King. What about you?
